Bottle @ London Gatherying, Nov 05. Loads of overpoweringly choclatey aroma in an artificial way despite which it all works fairly well.

Bottle at Chris’. Dark. Aroma is heavy on the chocolate syrup. The taste of this is almost overpoweringly chocolatey (and a little artificial), smooth, thick and fairly sweet, it’s a little over the top but not disgustingly so. One of the better chocolate beers.

Bottled at the Chris_O Beer, Cheese and Curry powwow. Oh wow! A black beer with an off-white head. The aroma and taste is oh so chocolatey, but beautiful thick tasty chocolate. Sweet licquorice in the aroma also. If there’s a better chocolate beer out there bring it on!! Sumptuous.

Bottle at London Gathering Nov 2005. Maeib tried to teach me how to pronounce the name, but I still can’t get the hang of it. Black beer with lasting beige head. Really, really, really chocolatey with some butterscotch. Quite good in mouth. Nice dark fruits. Bit over the top, but nice to sip

Nov, 2005. Kilburn Palace Bottle Fest. Chocolate By Hand. Interestingly creamy chocolatearoma. Nice chocolate flavour. Light frothy carbonation intrudes.

Bottle, at home. Dark brown with light brown head, mostly diminishing. Aroma moderate malty (chocolate light & dark) and light hoppy. Flavor moderate/heavy sweet, light bitter. To sweet. Light to medium body, watery, soft carbonated.

Bottle. Different label. Aroma rich of chocolate and coffee. I expected some more chocolate in the flavor. Quite a thin mouthfeel with a fresh note. Palate is mostly coffee.

50 cl bottle. Different label. 5.7 ABV. Aroma is extremely dominated by chocolate and vanilla. Very sweet body and extremely warming finish. I miss some bitternes and complexity in this brew.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2011 Bottle, as Kjaerstrup Chocolate Stout. Aromas of vanilla, chocolate, butter, caramel. Dark brown with tan head. Taste is much the same, like a crossover between a sweet chocolate toffee and a stout. Probably it will be too overwhealming to drink a bottle, but I sheared it with four friends, and then it was good. Rating: 6-4-8-3-17-3.8. 050923

Bottle, as Choko Stout. It’s a dark chestnut beer, clear, and with a small, beige head. Chocolate, dried fruits, some hints of DMS and a pleasant roasted touch in the aroma. Coffee, chocolate and dried fruits in the flavor, finishing with mostly chocolate. Medium body. A nice beer indeed, but not as nice as I remember it from five years ago, guess my palate has evolved. 100917

500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.7%. Dark ruby nearly black colour, large tan head. Aroma is overhelming chocolate (like chocolate sauce), artificial vanilla, cocoa, candy and caramel. Definitely too much of all the sweet aromas. Flavour is not quite as overwhelmingly sweet as the aroma makes you fear, but pretty close. Again: too much chocolate, cocoa and artificial vanilla, some coffee notes too. I’m not amused. Couldn’t finish the bottle.
