A red-brown beer with a huge chocolate brown head. The aroma is almost overwhelmingly full of chocolate - milk chocolate, but also contains notes of vanilla. The mouthfeel is quite thin - a surprise to me, at the alcohol content and for a beer from Svaneke. The flavor contains lots of chocolate, primarily milk chocolate, but in the end also some bitter chocolate. Besides all the chocolate the flavor also contains vanilla and some roasted malt. I wonder how this will mature.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 yespr (26476) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - AUG 4, 2007
50 cL bottle, both as Choko and Kjaerstrup stout, tasted head to head - completely the same. Pours dark brown with a red hue and a hue creamy light brown head. Heavy chocolate aroma, dry and spiced. Creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has the same distinct chocolate flavour again as the aroma. Nice dry, a bit dusty, creamy. Mild hops bitterness into the finish, otherwise dominated by the chocolate bitterness it seems.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2007 (Bottle 70 cl) Comes as "Kjaerstrup Chocolate Stout". Almost black with a reddish tint, very subdued, small head - heavy carbonation. Pronounced chocolatey notes, adding a bitter touch. Very extraordinary beer that goes well with....chocolate. 100404

Bottled (as Kjaerstrup). Deep ambery brown colour with mediumsized brown head. Aroma is fudge and chocolate with some mild coffeeish notes. Flavour is fudge, chocolate, some hoppyness as well as dark dry fruits. The flavour is quite of balance with all there is inside it.

Dark brown with a small beige head.
Sweet aroma with lots of milk chocolate, vanilla and a bit malt.
Sweet taste dominated by milk chocolate, malt, caramel, vanilla and an OK hoppy bitterness.
The vanilla is too dominating for my liking.

Bottled. Mahogany colour, rich head. Intense chocolate aroma. Sweet with loads of cocoa and a soft rounded mouthfeel. The chocolate flavour is simply awesome, but well strong. Regardless if it’s balanced or not I like it a lot...
