Editor’s note: made in cooperation with the gourmet licorice producer "Lakrids by Johan Bülow".

500mL thanks to my Norwegian Secret Santa. Pours clear, deeper brown. Huge head formation and complete, webby, tan lacing. Nose is heavy olive brine, green olive, heavy dairy. Taste is very sweet and sugary. Cloying, heavy sugary licorice tea. No richness. No bitterness. Thinner palate.

Black with dirty brown head. Hint of licorice in the nose, flavor starts really bland but finishes with licorice. Super thin body. I expected a lot more licorice, more everything really, good concept, poor execution.

500ml bottle. Pours a solid brown/black, with a thin, beige head. Roasted, spicy aroma, coffee, licorice, chocolate, caramel, toffee, ashes. Semi-sweet, full bodied, medium bitterness, creamy CO2. Spicy, roasted taste, lots of chocolate and licorice (root), coffee, caramel, smoke, malt. Lingering, sweet finish, with a very pleasant, earthy note of licorice. Yummy! (2012-06-11)

Bottle on the Oslo-Copenhagen ferry. Black, beige fluffy head. Sweet liquorice, salt, fairly light body. Nothing wrong with this, but lacks a little extra.

Svaneke Bryghus is an ordinary brewery, but the worlds best liquorice producer makes this an overall good beer. For sure the best beer from this brewery. Try some of their liquorices with this beer. They are all great.

bottle. large beige head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. pitch black color. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt and light chocolate. Over the palate came liquorice, coffee, roasted malt. Medium bodied, average carbonation, light thick texture. moderated sweet flavor with some counter bitternes. lingering sweet liquorice finish.

Bottled, 0.5l. Dark brown color with small frothy brown head, lively carbonation and malt / yeast residue. Aroma of caramel, coffee, chocolate, hops and liquorice. Flavor starts with sweet chocolate, caramel and coffee notes, then followed by sour fruitiness, while finish is medium hoppy. Medium body, creamy texture and low carbonation in palate. Good for the dessert, a bit plain for a beer...
