motelpogo (4111), Plzen, Czech Republic Feb 10, 2003 quite a treat and a great place to drink in the old monastery. coal black with a big brown head. spicy aroma with burnt hay. starts out tasting of espresso and vanilla aroma but becomes quite bitter and sharp - grapefruit. very full and with lingering bitterness Sigmund (1830), Hafrsfjord, Norway Mar 29, 2005 Draught at the brewpub/restaurant at the monastery. Dark brown, nearly black colour. Thick creamy head. Aroma of roasted malts, some leather, hints of treacle. Solid flavour of roasted malts and coffee, notes of dark bitter chocolate. Reminds me of a Baltic porter. Dry bitter aftertaste from the roastiness and hops. A very good beer - good enough to make me go back the next day for more! By the way - the brewery restaurant serves decent food too. gnoff (2530), Göteborg, Sweden Jan 29, 2006 Updated: Jun 1, 2006Draught at teh brewpub in May 2006.
According to the girl in the bar this beer had 6.0% ABV.
Shady brown color, big beautiful beige creamy lasting head. Served in the small round glasses it’s a feast for your eyes! Acid and burnt scent. Exceptional taste! Big mouthfeel, good bitterness, a bit burnt and acid, mixed with malts, flavor. Very high co2 level makes it a bit spritzy.
From May 2005:
Nice darker brew from the monestary brew pub. Actually nothing to do with the monestary part from housing in it’s old buildings, but still a nice area and a really nice beer. Pours brown/black with a tan head. Smelled of nuts and sugar. Tasted of caramel and toffee. Nice peppery finish. Wish I could get this one back home. jseremet (5), USA does not count Sep 30, 2007 I had this at the brewery in Prague and brought two bottles of it back with me to the States. Wow, what a beer. Probably the best I had over two short days in the city. A nice flavor, a bit of hop, not too strong nor overpowering. I polished off two there and could’ve had more.
