Tradicinė kolekcija
Baltijos is the oldest brand of Lithuanian beer, and is the oldest brand of beer produced by the brewery Svyturys, since 1965. Baltijos, which is strong beer of dark amber colour, stands out with brownish and particularly thick foam, rich and sweetish taste of caramel, which is felt in the mouth for a long period of time. Baltijos won the bronze award at the World Beer Cup in the category of German-style Märzen/Oktoberfest.

Mine was labelled "dark red", not "dark beer", and the bottle looks a bit different from the picture here. Anyway, this was my first Lithuanian beer and I was not impressed. Rich caramel dominates the flavor, and it tasted a little skunky - although to be fair, it could have been sitting on the shelf for quite some time. Some toffee flavor. No hops whatsoever. Not much aroma to speak of. Amber, with a whitish head that lingers nicely.

Bottle. Pours hazy copper with creamy off-white head. Aroma is toasted and bready malts, light toffee, floral notes, and faint raisin. Flavor is dry malts, light caramel and dark fruit sweetness, and faint hop bitterness. Medium body and light carbonation.

From a bottle. Pours cloudy copper with a bubbly beige head. Tastes very malty, like raisin, dry apple, grapes. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sour raisin, doughy malt, dry apple and grapes.

Bottle shared by sonnycheeba and snoworsummer. Pours lightly hazy amber with a small, frothy off-white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is toast and grain malt, light earthy hops and dates. Flavor is sweet malt, medium hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

500 ml bottle bought at Scapa Scandia’s booth at HKCEC in Wan Chai during HKTDC Food Expo 2014.

Clear amber honey colour; Three-quarter finger head and off-white foam which lasts for 1 minute; Small sticky lacing with quite fizzy carbonation; Aroma of amber malt, with moderate caramel, faint musty, rye bread, strong yeast, thin lemon and very light grass; Near-zero sweet taste of full amber malt, with caramel, shades of mustiness, hint of alcohol, strong dark bread, yeast, shades of lemon, thin bitter hops and very light grass; Close to light body. Slightly Slick palate; Mouth feel is solid, malty Amber backbone with very little roast. Quite dry and lean with strong dark bread come through. Hint of booze to tease and very faint, Dunkel-like mustyness does not distract. Good!... Hoppiness is thin lemon and grass in nose and taste. Close to zilch bitterness in background for a mostly Amber-malty and dark bread finish; Very dry after taste. Very easy to mouth.

Comments: This is another solid one from Švyturys - the best about it is near-zero sweetness, with is perfect for a boozed-up style like Maerzen. Plus its good dry caramel-based malty character makes it highly enjoyable for meals. Lack of hops is the minus. Overall a likeable one!

Drank in Korea, so anything better than Hite/Cass etc was great. Remember it being one of the better beers and difficult to find.
