500ml bottle. Deep caramel color. Medium size, off-white, thick head. Doesn’t last for very long, but never disappears. Sweet, hops, grainy, caramel in aroma. Alcohol, malty, caramel, very faint hops in flavor. Drinkable, but dull.

Having a red foil-like label with fine, shiny gold print, my tired old eyes can read little of it, so I have no idea what I’m dealing with here. (To top it off, I find the description on the site is in Lithuanian!) Ah - large print says it’s a Scottish ale. Poured, it displays a caramel body, clear, with a modest off-white head. It has an aroma of caramel with some soft stone fruit. The mouthfeel is a tad thin, somewhat watery. The flavor continues with the caramel and fruit blend, adding a touch of woody bitterness. Merely okay.

An average ale. For sure not a beer that i will be coming back to often. But still, among other brews from Svyturys i would pick this one.

Dark amber. Fading head. Thin body and taste. Not very rich or Scottish. Watery like a generic brewery.

Bottle. Light/medium amber, clear, with an average white head that fades quickly. Unpleasant stale grain and caramel aroma. Simple grainy caramel profile. Thin. Pass.

Bottle. Clear amber color with a thin foamy off-white head. Aroma of caramel and almond. Watery, medium sweet taste. Tastes quite like an amber lager.

This should be rating number 2700 for me. This is not a major milestone for me but I did pick what I thought was the most interesting beer I had around the house for it and that is this. The reason it’s interesting is not so much that the beer is crazy strange or anything as far as how it tastes but because it is a Lithuanian brewer making an American style that is supposedly based on descriptions of a traditional Scottish beer style that says it features a German malt on the label. If it this is not a cosmopolitan beer then I do not know what is. It kind of makes you wonder just who it is brewed for. Is there a clamoring for malty American crafts in Lithuania? Was this brewed chiefly for export? Who knows. This beer is just odd for all kind of little reasons and that makes it all the more exciting to try.

As far as the beer goes, there is no getting around the fact that it is not strictly great. It is a very nice red color--due to that German carared malt from Weyermann in Germany--and has a small but very long lasting head of fine white bubbles. The nose is very much malt centric w/ raisins and cherry being the predominant character but there is a bit of almost banana-like yeast character in there as well. Upon smelling this, I sort of predicted it would be all kinds of sweet and gross but it is thankfully just bland, which to me is better than tasting outright bad. It is a bit sweet but really not to bad and that sweetness, along w/ fine carbonation, does help to lend it a nice, creamy texture but it does get a bit heavy after a while. The finish is slightly bitter and slightly gauze-like and medicinal. Beers of this style can be had at brewpubs in the US coast to coast and they are equally uneventful but this one is from Lithuania and that’s cool.

Clear dark amber with a tall, fine head. Nice aroma of caramel and hoppy notes. Well-balanced taste.

Pours a clear dark red with a dense white head. Sweet malty aroma, caramel, toffee and a touch of smoke. Flavor is lightly sweet malts, caramel and toffee. Smoke and peat flavors are absent and would really make this a better beer if present.
