3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Interesting nose, almost an acitone quality. Mouth has some chocolate a little coffee and chalky calcium. Definitly english (I think its something in the water) with a lingering finish that hints at coco. No head to speak of and a very smooth mouthfeel that remains light and refreshing yet substantial at the same time.

No head whatsoever on this fairly thick, black beer. Very roasted with tons of coffee. Smooth and creamy. Not outstanding, but easy to drink. Iím happy there were no oysters. Confused about the sweet stout thing, because itís not sweet at all.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 16, 2007 The aroma is out of this world, a wonderful mix or roastiness and chocolate malt abounds. A persistent head upon a black, medium bodied delight. Very mellow in taste; I can see how many might not like it. But this one is well made. Iíve have had two Swale beers (The Indian Summer Pale Ale and this) and they are truly excellent. Iím glad I bought two of these.

Great nose. Lots of coffee and roasted malts. Light but flavorful. Low hop bitterness. Kind of reminds me of an iced coffee.

3.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Fantastic aroma! Cannot emphasize this enough. A wonderful hint of dark suprises. Mediocre to above roasted flavor with a hint of licorice. Low hop bitterness. What detracts from this beer is the chalky palate. Way too much gypsum and calcium carbonate. (Than again, drank if after Gulden Draak which possiby demolished the palate.) Would recommend the Kentish Gold over this one. Still, a good stout, and a great label.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
BLACK black beer, with minimal head or carbonation. Sweet slightly roasty aroma. Flavorwise, a trifle thin, but decent english-style stout. Smooth, pretty mild aftertaste, but one that lingers.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
at 4.50 a pop, this baby aged in my cellar for weeks while i awaited the perfect evening i could savor it without distraction. i neednít have bothered, the effort was like dressing up for dinner at the white castle. i do like the simple folky label. it pours oil pan black, modest head. the label says itís a perfect accompaniment to whitstable oysters, a claim iím powerless to contradict since i wouldnít know a whitstable oyster from a fried turkish eel gizard; therefore, i guess i canít put the drink in itís correct context, my absence of oysters of any variety apparently sullys my perfect appreciation of this overpriced delicacy. my first sip, (approximately fifty cents worth) bespoke blackened creosote like a well-worn pier, itís dry with strident hops; any resemblance to chocolate can be fairly tested by offering it to your girlfriend next vallentines day and seeing if she doesnít shoot you a look of dismay that signals a bad move on your part. so... i beg to differ with the more learned authorities here, but itís only mediocre. however, in deference to a few whose opinions very much respect, iíll try it again and realllllllllly concentrate!

Just a great drinkable stout. Almost a tar like aroma and flavor. Very, Very smooth with chocolate malt flavors. A good session beverage.
