Cask; Regular - also available bottle conditioned.
Rich, dry, chocolate and mocha flavours. This is great chilled and served with oysters.

Bottle. It’s quite dark with a little reddish hue. It produced no head whatsoever. I found it somewhat refreshing due to the faint light notes. The oyster taste is existent. This would probably be better if it was paired with a meal, but it’s an okay beer.

Bottle. Pours dark with amber edges, but with virtually no head. Too watery in the mouth. I was pleased that I can actually taste oyster in it, along with typical stout flavors. Refreshing, but the elements aren’t brought together very well.

Cask gravity Canterbury beer festival. Aroma of molasses flavour is drier, good mouth feel, finish is dry . It is almost, but not quite there. Chewy malts with some coffee

Black color with no head. Slight coffee aroma with a whiff of smoke. The taste is dominated by dry malt and some chocolate. It’s a litte thin, but it’s certainly an enjoyable stout.

Black Coloring with Tan Ring. Coffee, Smoke Aroma. Thin Mouthfeel, Smoke, Coffee, Malty...Simple Yet Establishes Itself in a Very Characterable Manner. Definitly a Drinkalbe Stout.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2005 Pours out nearly black with the slenderest of brown heads. It’s got a sweet yeroasty malt aroma with dark chocolate lurking in the distance. Smooth almost to the point of being wartery, it’s got a nice mildly sweet flavor with roasted barley, dark chocolate, and light coffee. Mildly dry finish. Enjoyable.

Cask at The Queen’s Head, Chelmsford.
Pitch black with a small head. Rather sweet buttery and malty aroma with coffee notes. Sweet flavor with some nice fruity notes and a good roasted tone. Some coffee, orange and citrus present as well. Dry finish. Not the fullest stout but tasty and easy.

As the Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival wasn’t open all afternoon, this was one of the beers I missed out on through lack of time. So I was very pleased to wander into the Queens Head just down the road and find this on handpump. Lets get the criticism out of the way first. It’s not the fullest bodied stout, a little watery if anything. Apart from that, I thought this was a pretty decent stout with a pronounced coffee aroma. Plenty of smoky malt and chocolate in the flavour. Decent stuff. \Not sure I’d have had this down as a sweet stout though.
