Sharing a bottle with a generous friend. Pours dark walnut brown. One of the more toasty smelling beers Iíve had. Other aromas include vanilla and bourbon but surprised I canít smell pecan. Sweet and strong. Fantastic pecan finish.

From the release. Finally cracked the bottle with beastmaster. Pours a deep amber brown with small yellowish brown head. Aroma of sweet toffee, biscuits, vanilla, oak, caramel, marshmallow. Donít get much bourbon but the vanilla from it is definitely there. Flavor is sweet up front followed by some dryness and pecan, vanilla whiskey notes, and fading back into lingering pecan. I did not get this much pecan from the original. Super complex flavor. Lingering taste is like pecan pie with some vanilla whipped cream, yet the bitter balances the sweet. Flavor is really layered nicely here. Slick mouthfeel that finishes with a slight dry oakiness. A sipper but pretty easy for 13%. Not the bourbon notes of the likes of Sucaba, but more nuance and complexity in the flavors. This really worked for me, and could have been worth sucking a little more bourbon flavor from the barrel. Otherwise, this seemed right on.

6/29/13. 750mL bottle from the release. Mostly clear reddish amber pour with a frothy tan head. Nice whiskey, a touch of booze, with some nuttiness and brown sugar. Slightly sweet flavor, nutty, lots of bourbon, brown sugar, and light fruitiness. Not bad - pretty tasty.

SPANKS, mishuggah! Cracked alongside a BA 10-10-10. Def a barleywine for people who love barleywines - of which I am one. Smell is salty pecan brittle. Taste follows with Pappy himself putting in just the tip. Love the saltiness. Like a great balanced desert - i.e. salted caramel is so much better than regular caramel.

Big thanks to dak for sharing this. It pours with a clear deep copper body and thin gold edges while supporting a tiny off white head. The aroma has musty sweet dark fruity esters like prunes, raisins, blueberries and plum juice as well as sticky pine hops. The taste is yummy with prunes and raisins soaked in sticky pine sap nuanced molasses. Behind those notes I get a modestly thick layer of smooth sweet bourbon and coconut. This has a terrific balance between hops, dark fruity esters and barrel notes, wow!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared at Richardís Graduation Party (Western Springs, IL). Thanks, guys! Pours a richer ruby copper pour, gentle haziness with good copper glow throughout. A small frothy tannish head atop dies to a small film, laces small. Aromas are a bit sticky, caramel and gentle toast. Faint fruit, a bit of nuttiness and sweet toffee. Some gentle oak, whiskey, vanilla. Mellow wood, a touch sweet. Initial is heavier end of medium bodied, a sticky feel up front is toffee, vanilla, some butterscotch and oak. Vanilla, some gentle fruit, more sticky salted caramel. Toffee, toast, biscuits. Sweeter. Middle is more butterscotch, nuttiness, the pecans and whiskey start to come in as we round the corner. Touches of whiskey, heat, some sticky caramel. Finish is a bit sticky, more barrel, tannic, vanilla and some coconut. A bit of heat. Not bad, a bit sweet and sticky for me. Meh.

Bottle thanks to Raul. Clear amber pour with a white head. Smooth caramel and bourbon aromas. Very good mouthfeel. Smooth bourbon and rich caramel malts with woody undertones and just a hint of bitterness from the hops. Some time in the barrels helped this beer IMHO. Good body and balance. Thanks Raul...
