Bottle thanks to Marco. Pours muddy brown with off white/light beige head. Nose/taste of baked pecans, toasted biscuit malt, caramel, toast, light toffee and hints of citrus. Body on the lighter side for a barleywine. Lots of sweet pecan nuts in the finish. Medium body.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared in line for GTMW tickets (Madison, WI). Pours a rich murky brownish hue, good murky clouding with amber glow on the edges, with a frothy beige head that dies to a good thicker ring, laces ok. Aromas offer dry florals and a good solid dry hopping, touches of toffee, caramel, and pecans. Gentle toffee, biscuits, bread, and toast. Some firm dryness. Initial is fuller end of medium bodied, offering toasty and thicker sweet toffee, carmelization toasty and buttery pecans, bread, dough. Middle is still dry and middle body, sweet nuts, earth, and toffee. Backend dries out, toasty and carmelized, dry floral and earth hops. Pretty solid.

UPDATED: APR 23, 2012 750ml Bottle: Got in trade from biggsbowler; THANKS Randall. Aroma of malt, caramel, light hops, barley wine, light dark ripe fruit, light pecan, and some brown sugar. Poured deep orange/brown in color with a large, creamy, dense, rocky, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of malt, hops, wood, and some caramel. Medium body. Creamy, slick, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Lightly sweet, medium bitter, malt, hop, wood, finish is dry. 13%ABV is completely hidden throughout. Not much pecan at all.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml bottle. Muddy brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is malt, butterscotch, nutty and earthy. Tastes are sweet mix of the smells with caramel, citrus and pine bitterness. A little overly sweet up front for my tastes - but balances out a bit with the boozy bitter finish. Ok.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a hazy amber with a big thick beige head that leaves really nice lacing.
Aroma is really hoppy, even for an American BW, with lots juicy citrus and pine resin up front. The sweet sugary malts are there with some caramelized pecans and hint of toffee.
Taste starts with some abrasive hoppiness and has a bit of nutty malts and light sugar in the background. The finish is really bitter with hops dominating alongside a ton of booze,
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with light carbonation and comes across very bitter and sharp on the palate.
This is a seriously hopped BW that is all about the hops and the alcohol, which is not hidden all that well. A decent beer, but not one of CCB’s best.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle… Lightly-hazed Longhorn-orange ale with a short-lived, taupe head. Good retention. The aroma is a malty, hoppy mélange of roasted tree nuts, brown sugar, caramel, dark fruit, earthiness, woodiness and resin. Medium to full-bodied with busy carbonation. The flavor is boozy, more bitter than sweet and a touch abrasive due to what must be a substantial hop bill. Components include caramel, toasted nuts and earthy, tannic bitterness. Finishes bittersweet and a touch abrasive with lingering bitterness. I’m not big on American-style barleywines.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Big thanks to drabmuh for sharing this bottle. Served in a SAVOR wine glass.
Pours a slightly-hazed light caramel color with a nice off-white good and some spotty lacing as it goes down. The nose brings some pecans and brown sugar plus a light bit of caramel. The flavor is pretty similar but with a bit of alcohol heat, coming out more as it warms up. Medium body with good carbonation and a dryness to the finish. Pretty good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
3/24/12. 750mL bottle. I’m surprised this doesn’t have more ratings. Well, here goes. Rich brown pour, more red/amber under the light with a big tan head that cuts fast but laces a ton. Big sweetness hits the nose first, brown sugar and molasses, with tons of dark fruit and a distinct nuttiness, but I don’t know that I’d pin it as pecans specifically. Sweet entry of caramel and brown sugar with some dark fruits and then a SLAM in the face of bitter nuttiness, like chawing on a handful of the dust that’s all over a bag/can of pecans. The caramelly sweetness combined with the nuttiness makes it taste almost like candied pecans, which is nice, but the nutty bitterness, combined with the lingering hop bitterness, is a bit too much. Not bad.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nutty and strong caramel flavors make a nice well rounded barleywine, but it was maybe just a touch too sweet.
