Pours a thick black on tap with nice tan head and decent lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and a nice hoppy finish. Taste follows suit, with a nice bitter finish. Great, perhaps the best swamp head.

Draft at proof. Deep brown, almost black pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma is strong pine and grassy hops with some underlying roasted malt notes. Flavor has nice pine, floral, and more grass notes with some roasted malts. Nice bitter finish. Pretty tasty!

Had this one at SAVOR. Aroma was roasted malts, not overpowering - which is often my issue with a lot of Black Ales. A touch of earthy citrus and earthy notes to it as well. Flavor was earthy notes, citrus, roasted malts. Pretty tasty.

Big thanks to G311 for sharing this one. Served in a mini tulip.
Pours a very dark brown color with a nice off-white head and a good bit of lacing on the way down. The nose carries a good dosage of pine and light roast plus faint citrus in the background. Flavor is also roasty with a nice hop component. Light-medium body and good carbonation. Very solid.

Pours dark unclear chestnut black with a big creamy light cocoa head. The fresh pine cascade hop aroma is still refreshing a few weeks old. The flavor is spot on as well with the refreshing cascade piney but smooth hops on a perfect creamy body with just the right chocolate toasted backbone.

Tallahassee, Fl - Fermentation Lounge - on tap. Dark, black. tar-like pour, medium thick mocha colored head, nice sticky web of lacing. Fresh, aromatic spruce-like aroma with a touch of earthiness followed by some fresh black dirt accents. Brief licorice notes in the flavor, some chocolate accents, citrus hints and an earthy back end of fresh potting soil. Mouthfeel is sufficiently chewy and thick. All in all, very solid and I am liking what I am seeing from this brewery thus far.

Tap at Green Room Brewing in Jax Beach, FL. Pours a deep, clear maroon near black with a thin, coffee head. Spots of lace. Nose is muted- small ash and raisins with something like bacon wrapped plum, dark cherry, and tobacco. All is a bit hard to pick out without the typical robust aromatic hop nose you would expect in this style. Taste is prickly up front with bitter melon rind hops but no explosion you might want from Black IPA. More fruits, lemon, and gin spices like coriander. Carbonation is way to high. Body is a bit too attenuated. Finishes with some big resinous hop but the palate is still too thin and even comes off as lemony tart. Decent.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2011 Draft at World of Beer (Land O Lakes). Pour an opaque black with tan head. Moderate webbed lacing along the glass. Lots of citrus hops in the aroma but a fair amount of roasted malts as well. Nice amount of bitterness in the finish.

Near black opaque, full tan head. Sharp citric catty nose of cascade hops. Resiny citric bitter finish. Some roast. Very reminiscent of Shakespeare Stout, but more rough around the edges. Still fairly nice.
