COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark, hoppy Floridian Dark Ale. This award winning dark ale features a rich smoothness and complex hop profile.

Blackwater Floridian Dark Ale is an American-style Black Ale at the low end of the IPA alcohol range (6.4% ABV), with an abundance of hop flavor and aroma. It represents what we consider to be an improvement on what are being called Black IPAs, or Cascadian Dark Ales, deriving its "darkness" from chocolate wheat malt rather than the bitter roasted barley used in most examples of this new style. The name is derived from Florida’s "Blackwater" rivers, which are dark in tannins from the native oak trees.

Blackwater was created through a collaboration between Head Brewer Craig Birkmaier and Eric Luman, Head Brewer at Jacksonville’s Green Room brewery. It was judged the Best Beer in Florida at the 2011 Best Florida Beer Competition.

Tasting at Kevin’s. Hoppy nose. LIght body. Not sure if this is trying to be a black IPA since brownish body. Hops dominate any other flavor.

Poured a brown color with aromas of light citrus hops, and some roast. Flavors are the same, meh, this is not my style, and not what I expect from a black IPA, ok beer overall, but will pass on it the next time I see it.

Tap at Proof thanks to local RB folks: Poured a deep black with a thin tan head. Aroma is light hops. Taste is nice gritty full flavored hops. Very nice black IPA.

From an old note. No idea where I tried it. swamphead blackwater - nice - more ipaish - pine, reasony, grapefruit- very drinkable - less of the harsh malty from most bipa’s, 7.6

Pours dark unclear chestnut black with a big creamy light cocoa head. The fresh pine cascade hop aroma is still refreshing a few weeks old. The flavor is spot on as well with the refreshing cascade piney but smooth hops on a perfect creamy body with just the right chocolate toasted backbone.

From the 750ml bottle. Pours black with a thick off white head. Citrus and dark roasted grain aroma. Medium body, caramel malts, citrus hops and light roasted malts in the taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Near black opaque, full tan head. Sharp citric catty nose of cascade hops. Resiny citric bitter finish. Some roast. Very reminiscent of Shakespeare Stout, but more rough around the edges. Still fairly nice.

Appatently this is the new name for "blackwater". Pours a thick black on tap with nice tan head and decent lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and a nice hoppy finish. Taste follows suit, with a nice bitter finish. Great, perhaps the best swamp head.
