A dark, hoppy Floridian Dark Ale. This award winning dark ale features a rich smoothness and complex hop profile.

Blackwater Floridian Dark Ale is an American-style Black Ale at the low end of the IPA alcohol range (6.4% ABV), with an abundance of hop flavor and aroma. It represents what we consider to be an improvement on what are being called Black IPAs, or Cascadian Dark Ales, deriving its "darkness" from chocolate wheat malt rather than the bitter roasted barley used in most examples of this new style. The name is derived from Florida’s "Blackwater" rivers, which are dark in tannins from the native oak trees.

Blackwater was created through a collaboration between Head Brewer Craig Birkmaier and Eric Luman, Head Brewer at Jacksonville’s Green Room brewery. It was judged the Best Beer in Florida at the 2011 Best Florida Beer Competition.

Dark black in color, clear with a thin tan head. Nice Dark ale aroma and light finish. I was impressed with the aroma more than the flavor. This was a decent dark ale attempt.

Big thanks to G311 for sharing this one. Served in a mini tulip. Pours a very dark brown color with a nice off-white head and a good bit of lacing on the way down. The nose carries a good dosage of pine and light roast plus faint citrus in the background. Flavor is also roasty with a nice hop component. Light-medium body and good carbonation. Very solid.

750ml bottle from THE Homer321, tanks brau. Poured a super deep brown that appears almost black under a large foamy beige head. Aroma/flavor of lightly burnt toast, medium black coffee, touch of vanilla, chocolate bar, roasted malts. Big body with high carbonation and a lingering aftertaste.

Poured a brown color with aromas of light citrus hops, and some roast. Flavors are the same, meh, this is not my style, and not what I expect from a black IPA, ok beer overall, but will pass on it the next time I see it.

On draft at Cigar City for the Swamp Head Tap Takeover. Pours a thick murky brown with a tan head. Nose is nice malt presence, and some roast, plenty of pine, bitter citrus, and earthy herbacious hops. Flavor is nice amount is malt, some coffee-esque flavor, and fair amounts of hops. Medium-bodied and a nice black IPA.
