COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Midnight Oil is an Oatmeal Coffee Stout. "Quiet and sensual like a moonlit night, this complex blend of toasted oats, roasted barley, chocolate wheat malt, and dark roast organic coffee, imparts an intense aroma and complex flavor profile. Midnight Oil will wake up your senses. We brew a traditional English oatmeal stout with a rich malt profile, then add locally roasted organic fair trade coffee while this ale is cold conditioned. Cold extraction imparts an intense coffee aroma and flavor without the bitter oils using heat processing techniques

Not my favorite. Coffee ground flavor, thin for a stout, chalky, then a bland aftertaste. Boring.

Draft at Fermentation. Black pour with a big creamy brown head. Rich roasted and chocolatey aroma with coffee, vanilla and earthiness. Flavor follows pretty closely with more dry bitterness throughout the body and finish. Pretty tasty Stout.

On tap. Big black pour with a small khaki head. Fair amount of lacing. Heavy coffee aroma with some chocolate and malts. Flavor follows - much less sweet than a lot of oatmeals, just nicely bitter black coffee and a little hint of molasses in the back. Only complaint is that itís pretty thin for a stout with "oil" in the title. Very good though.

Tap. Heavy malt notes of toasted cereal and strong coffee, light resin and dough for the hops and yeast, with a big dose of charcoal on the back end. Head is small, wispy, light brown with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very murky dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately acidic and moderately bitter, then finishes moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation and a pretty dry finish This Stout smell pretty nice, thereís just not a lot of complexity in the flavor.

UPDATED: JUN 22, 2013 On tap at Satchelís in Gainesville. Poured in a plastic cup...oh well. I tend to like roasty stouts a bit more than syrupy and sweet and this one hit it on the nose. Very strong roasted coffee aroma. More carbonated than other stouts. Mild sweetness balances with the roasted coffee. Goes down easy, which is expected given the 5% alcohol. A great stout in cold or warm weather. Iím beginning to really like Swamp Head, and will have to make a visit there soon.

Deep dark body and tan head. Chocolate and coffee, roasted malts and basement. Surprisingly bitter and toasted taste. Very nice. (On tap at Satchels on Florida trip)

Nice balance of coffee, oatmeal and chocolately flavors. Texture is rich and syrupy. Color is the expected black. Midnight Oil is one nice stout.

Aroma is full of coffee, but feels incomplete. Appearance is a bit oily (not a pun) but a nice dark with a small copper lacing head. Taste is a bit stale, but honestly more realistically coffee than other coffee stouts. The nice thick carbonation balances the bitter.
