COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Midnight Oil is an Oatmeal Coffee Stout. "Quiet and sensual like a moonlit night, this complex blend of toasted oats, roasted barley, chocolate wheat malt, and dark roast organic coffee, imparts an intense aroma and complex flavor profile. Midnight Oil will wake up your senses. We brew a traditional English oatmeal stout with a rich malt profile, then add locally roasted organic fair trade coffee while this ale is cold conditioned. Cold extraction imparts an intense coffee aroma and flavor without the bitter oils using heat processing techniques

Tap at Miccosukee Root Cellar in Tallahassee FL. Pours deeper near black. Medium, rockier coffee head. Webby lacing. Nose is rich coffee and dark chocolate. No off character. Taste is roasty, quite rich, super heavy espresso and dark chocolate. Very good. Rich but drinkable. Lighter palate than its peers with no wateriness. Quite a feat. Much better than first batches I tried a few years ago before they had distribution. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

jbruner (2135) - Athens, Georgia, USA - APR 25, 2012
Pours a dark blackish brown, with a small tan head that dissipates leaving little lacing. Smells of coffee and dark chocolate, with a hint of alcohol. Taste is pretty much that as well, mostly of the malts, very little on the hops or much else. Very smooth for a coffee based stout, but you would it expect it to be a little heavier with a name like that.

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2012 This stout was big and unbalanced - which can be a good thing. If you like the coffee/roasted notes in stouts, then this brew is perfect for you. The aroma was thick and almost smoky with cocoa and coffee notes. The taste was again, very roasted but with a rather light malt undertone. Finished robust, bitter and with a distinct texture that was dry and light.

Draft at CCB. Pour is, of course, black with a tan head. Nose is light chocolate and copious amounts of roast and coffee. The taste is straight up roasted coffee beans. LOTS of roast. If you like coffee stouts, then this one should fit the bill quite nicely. Unfortunately there isnít much else going on in the flavor but itís still a nice brew.
