COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Midnight Oil is an Oatmeal Coffee Stout. "Quiet and sensual like a moonlit night, this complex blend of toasted oats, roasted barley, chocolate wheat malt, and dark roast organic coffee, imparts an intense aroma and complex flavor profile. Midnight Oil will wake up your senses. We brew a traditional English oatmeal stout with a rich malt profile, then add locally roasted organic fair trade coffee while this ale is cold conditioned. Cold extraction imparts an intense coffee aroma and flavor without the bitter oils using heat processing techniques

What a wonderful new romantic flavor, complex aroma, with a hint of chocolate perhaps, but more of a coffee malt. Medium size brown head, thin, not too frothy. My first pint was enjoyed at The WAREHOUSE of Gainesville, Florida... as was my second, third, and fourth. This Stout was delicious, glass after glass, and it didnít make me feel full or bloated. I was pleased with itís rich dark color, itís full body and flavor. Great drinkability. Went down very smooth, as I was a bit nervous when I saw the word oil in itís name. I highly recommend this beer to all of the Stout lovers out there. Currently available in kegs, soon to be bottled in a new bottling plant in the Gainesville, Florida area, as I was informed by the owner of The WAREHOUSE RESTUARANT.

Nice balance of coffee, oatmeal and chocolately flavors. Texture is rich and syrupy. Color is the expected black. Midnight Oil is one nice stout.

UPDATED: JUN 22, 2013 On tap at Satchelís in Gainesville. Poured in a plastic cup...oh well. I tend to like roasty stouts a bit more than syrupy and sweet and this one hit it on the nose. Very strong roasted coffee aroma. More carbonated than other stouts. Mild sweetness balances with the roasted coffee. Goes down easy, which is expected given the 5% alcohol. A great stout in cold or warm weather. Iím beginning to really like Swamp Head, and will have to make a visit there soon.

On tap. Big black pour with a small khaki head. Fair amount of lacing. Heavy coffee aroma with some chocolate and malts. Flavor follows - much less sweet than a lot of oatmeals, just nicely bitter black coffee and a little hint of molasses in the back. Only complaint is that itís pretty thin for a stout with "oil" in the title. Very good though.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2011 Growler from Swamp Head brewery (Gainesville, FL). Pours a near black color with a dark tan head. Roasted malt, coffee, licorice, and dark chocolate in the aroma and flavor. Nice bitterness in the finish.

Tap at Miccosukee Root Cellar in Tallahassee FL. Pours deeper near black. Medium, rockier coffee head. Webby lacing. Nose is rich coffee and dark chocolate. No off character. Taste is roasty, quite rich, super heavy espresso and dark chocolate. Very good. Rich but drinkable. Lighter palate than its peers with no wateriness. Quite a feat. Much better than first batches I tried a few years ago before they had distribution. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
