Midnight Oil is an Oatmeal Coffee Stout. "Quiet and sensual like a moonlit night, this complex blend of toasted oats, roasted barley, chocolate wheat malt, and dark roast organic coffee, imparts an intense aroma and complex flavor profile. Midnight Oil will wake up your senses. We brew a traditional English oatmeal stout with a rich malt profile, then add locally roasted organic fair trade coffee while this ale is cold conditioned. Cold extraction imparts an intense coffee aroma and flavor without the bitter oils using heat processing techniques

Draft to taster at Tomoka. Looks good; a slightly translucent very dark brown with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt, coffee, and a nice balance of roast. Tastes like it smells with a somewhat bitter mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Tap at Dunedin brewery. Poured black with a thin brown head. Primary notes of roasted malt in the nose with lesser notes of chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Medium to slightly thin body with a creamy mouth feel. Flavor is hard roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and a hint of coffee. Finishes with mild bitterness.

Draft at CCB. Pour is, of course, black with a tan head. Nose is light chocolate and copious amounts of roast and coffee. The taste is straight up roasted coffee beans. LOTS of roast. If you like coffee stouts, then this one should fit the bill quite nicely. Unfortunately there isnít much else going on in the flavor but itís still a nice brew.

Thinner mouth feel, but big flavor, coffee, burnt toast and roasted malt. Chocolate, but more of a deep dark chocolate. the coffee that Iím tasting is definitely Ethiopian. this is a pretty rough beer with a cool mouth feel.

Draft at redlight. Pours a dark brown almost black color topped by a small, bubbly tan colored head of foam that settles quickly to a thin film. The aroma shows notes of dark chocolate, roasted barley, and loads of roasted coffee all atop a sweet chocolate malt backbone. The flavor follows with fresh roasted coffee up front, milk chocolate and roasted barley with an earthy hop bitterness on the back end. Pretty nice flavor between the dark chocolate and roasted coffee. On the thinner side of medium bodied with balanced carbonation that leads to a lengthy roasty finish. Tons of coffee for sure, but I donít get much in the way of oatmeal as the body was a touch thin. Still a nice drinking and solid coffee stout.

Tap at CCB: Poured a black color with a tan head. Aroma is light coffee bean and roasted malts/barley. The taste is watery thin espresso coffee. I expected it to be a little thicker with a name like midnight oil!
