COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Midnight Oil is an Oatmeal Coffee Stout. "Quiet and sensual like a moonlit night, this complex blend of toasted oats, roasted barley, chocolate wheat malt, and dark roast organic coffee, imparts an intense aroma and complex flavor profile. Midnight Oil will wake up your senses. We brew a traditional English oatmeal stout with a rich malt profile, then add locally roasted organic fair trade coffee while this ale is cold conditioned. Cold extraction imparts an intense coffee aroma and flavor without the bitter oils using heat processing techniques

Draft at redlight. Pours a dark brown almost black color topped by a small, bubbly tan colored head of foam that settles quickly to a thin film. The aroma shows notes of dark chocolate, roasted barley, and loads of roasted coffee all atop a sweet chocolate malt backbone. The flavor follows with fresh roasted coffee up front, milk chocolate and roasted barley with an earthy hop bitterness on the back end. Pretty nice flavor between the dark chocolate and roasted coffee. On the thinner side of medium bodied with balanced carbonation that leads to a lengthy roasty finish. Tons of coffee for sure, but I don’t get much in the way of oatmeal as the body was a touch thin. Still a nice drinking and solid coffee stout.

Tap at CCB: Poured a black color with a tan head. Aroma is light coffee bean and roasted malts/barley. The taste is watery thin espresso coffee. I expected it to be a little thicker with a name like midnight oil!

Poured from a mini growler. Pours black with a thin beige head. Nose is some coffee and smoke. Taste followed the nose but lacked any real punch. The mouthfeel was thin for a beer of this type. Pretty disappointing.

Aroma of coffee takes over everything else and pours black with a small cream head. Taste of coffee shines through strong. Easy to drink and tasty. Nice beer!

Sample at Mile Marker Brewery in St Augustine, FL. Black color with tan head. Aroma of coffee. Did these guys just serve me cold coffee?? Nope, taste reveals carbonation and notes of chocolate, bitter roasted malt and light earthy hops. Light body, medium carbonation, somewhat acidic with lingering roasty/coffee-like finish. A coffee smelling beer that actually had no coffee in it! Great stuff.

On tap at the 2010 installment of Stogies and Stouts pouring deep dark with ruby edges and thin tan head. The aroma is kind of roasty to burnt with malt sweetness and a light level of black strap molasses around the edges. The taste brings up malt sweetness, dark roasted malts and a bit of burnt malts that heads into sort of an ashy sense by midway. The sweetness and the fairly thin body maintain all the way through into the finish picking up a sense of earthiness as well.

Draft. Black pour, thin light tan head. Moderate coffee aroma, mild roast in back. Light body. More coffee on taste than roast. Kind of on the lighter side.

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, a nice smooth chocolate with light burned wood, some fusel alcohol, really nice. In mouth, a light and smooth chocolate with light peated notes, not bad but overall, a bit light. On tap at Dunedin House of Beer, May 23 2010.

Draft. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is great: chocolate, lots of coffee, roasted malts. Flavor is coffee and light hop bitterness; somewhat watery and closer to drip coffee than coffee stout.
