COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Midnight Oil is an Oatmeal Coffee Stout. "Quiet and sensual like a moonlit night, this complex blend of toasted oats, roasted barley, chocolate wheat malt, and dark roast organic coffee, imparts an intense aroma and complex flavor profile. Midnight Oil will wake up your senses. We brew a traditional English oatmeal stout with a rich malt profile, then add locally roasted organic fair trade coffee while this ale is cold conditioned. Cold extraction imparts an intense coffee aroma and flavor without the bitter oils using heat processing techniques

Tap. Heavy malt notes of toasted cereal and strong coffee, light resin and dough for the hops and yeast, with a big dose of charcoal on the back end. Head is small, wispy, light brown with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very murky dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately acidic and moderately bitter, then finishes moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation and a pretty dry finish This Stout smell pretty nice, theres just not a lot of complexity in the flavor.

Pours a jet black with a thin white head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste follows, nice roasty coffee stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler from Cigar City. Pours black with tan head. Coffee and roasted malt aromas with some chocolate. Coffee flavor is most prominent with roasted malts, chocolate and some ashyness. Medium body with mild carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

9/12/10. Black pour, not much brown head. Aroma is definite coffee and chocolate - promising. Very disappointing flavor... sour, plain, and burnt. Not distinctly coffee, and barely any chocolate or anything going on in it. Meh.

On draft poured a dark black color with bitter chocolate aroma, and coffee. Flavors match the aroma, with more focus on the coffee flavor rather than it being balanced like the smell.

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2012 This stout was big and unbalanced - which can be a good thing. If you like the coffee/roasted notes in stouts, then this brew is perfect for you. The aroma was thick and almost smoky with cocoa and coffee notes. The taste was again, very roasted but with a rather light malt undertone. Finished robust, bitter and with a distinct texture that was dry and light.

Growler shared by drabmuh. Thanks Matt! The beer is dark brown with a thin, tan head that leaves a fair amount of lacing behind. The aroma brings a light dose of roast and coffee. The flavor is decent, but lacks character and assertiveness. The feel is relatively thin, though this is but a 5% ABV stout. Overall, I wish the beer brought more coffee and roast character, both in the aroma and flavor profile. Worth a try. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 05-10-2011
