COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Imperial Red Ale with an overdose of six different types of hops. Sciaenops ocellatus, better known around Florida as the "Redfish," is an extremely popular game-fish which gains more and more notoriety each year. From early fall through the spring, Redfish can be found in the bays and inland waters of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of Florida. Florida enforces a slot size restriction on Redfish - anglers can only keep fish that measure 18 to 27 inches in length, with a bag limit of one or two per day, depending on the management region. Not too little; not too big; a "keeper" Redfish provides a strong challenge on light tackle, and a feast on the half-shell - a filet grilled with skin and scales intact. Much the same can be said about Scieanhops, a holiday celebration Ale, created by our brewers to meet craft beer angler’s thirst for a hearty red ale with a feast of hop flavor and aroma. This Imperial Red Ale was brewed the day after Christmas, using eleven malts and twelve hop additions; it weighs in at a healthy 8.3% ABV. We expect it to become a Swamp Head holiday tradition...

Pours a reddish brown color with a nice head. Nose is hoppy. Taste is bitter and hoppy but without any real flavor. Finish is bitter, fair at best. Quaff Score 6 / 10

Bomber. Pours a red brown with a tan head and aroma of hops and citrus. Taste is hoppy, citrus, malt, caramel, and grapefruit notes with a dry, bitter findih

750ml bottle in a teku. Pours deep brown/ruby with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of floral and piney hops, some toffee and caramel malts, light alcohol notes, and some dough. Flavor the same. Average texture. Interesting, but not the best beer.

Poured an amberish color with aromas of light pepper, some hops, light malt and a touch of floral aromas. Flavors were hosp, and malt with some light pepper added. Decent overall, would drink again.

Bottle... Clear, deep, dark, Longhorn-orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. The nose is all about the hops - peppery, spicy, dank and musky. Full-bodied and oily with tingly carbonation. Bitter citrus rindy and tannic hops dominate the flavor. Lengthy, lingering, bitter finish. I typically hate imperial red ales, but this is tolerable for me. Surprising, coming from Swamp Head. I don’t generally like their beers.

Swamp Head Sciaenhops is an IPA wannabe that isn’t. Faint but pleasant floral aroma from a nice pour. Hop florals come through the overriding bitterness that obscures the flavor profile. It is like an IPA that went too far. Good but not exceptional.

From a bottle poured a dark amber color with a small amount of head. Strong malty hoppy flavor with a quick finish.

Dark golden colored pour. Slight off-white head. Little bit of lacing. Big hop aroma with some citrus notes and a malty background. Taste is a nice malty presence with a ton of hops and citrus. Sweet, yet dry. Pretty good.

Fresh bottle from the brewery. Pours a deep dark red color with a big fluffy off white head that just lingers. Won't go away. Nice big hop presence on the nose with pine and light citrus and a good bit of dankness to go along with earthy grassiness and a nice sweet smelling caramel backbone. Lots of dank earthiness to the flavor with pine, a caramel backbone, some light fruit to sweeten the flavor up. The mouthfeel is slick and resinous but has a nice drying finish. The only complaint here is that the carbonation is on the low side for a brew like this. A little more bubbly would have helped out an otherwise very nice red ale with a great punch of bitter hops. Worth having again.

Bottle thanks to Sean, unfortunately list in my rot box for a while. Gusher. Pours hazy red amber, medium tan head, nice lacing. Aroma is caramel pine. Flavor is about the same, light sweet, medium bitter with a sharp bite. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Not bad now, probably pretty good three months ago. Mea culpa
