An Imperial Red Ale with an overdose of six different types of hops. Sciaenops ocellatus, better known around Florida as the "Redfish," is an extremely popular game-fish which gains more and more notoriety each year. From early fall through the spring, Redfish can be found in the bays and inland waters of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of Florida. Florida enforces a slot size restriction on Redfish - anglers can only keep fish that measure 18 to 27 inches in length, with a bag limit of one or two per day, depending on the management region. Not too little; not too big; a "keeper" Redfish provides a strong challenge on light tackle, and a feast on the half-shell - a filet grilled with skin and scales intact. Much the same can be said about Scieanhops, a holiday celebration Ale, created by our brewers to meet craft beer angler’s thirst for a hearty red ale with a feast of hop flavor and aroma. This Imperial Red Ale was brewed the day after Christmas, using eleven malts and twelve hop additions; it weighs in at a healthy 8.3% ABV. We expect it to become a Swamp Head holiday tradition...

On tap, Proof Brewing, downstairs. Clear, dark tea colored beer with a thin frogs’ eggs head. Tannic, west coast hop aroma. Mellow, woody, tangy, pretty good for a red. Acidic. Medium body. Long woody finish. Well done, although reds aren’t my style.

Tap, growler from Proof. Amber pour with a frothy off-white head and good retention. Aroma is citrus, caramel and pine. Tastes are same with eathy grassy vibe, little malt heavy. Leaves a long bitter aftertaste. nice creamy thin to medium palate. Nice enough.

Tap at proof. Clear deep red amber pour with off white head. Good lacing. Faint Sweet aroma floral hops. Sweet malt with a strong floral and leafy bitterness. Does not taste as strong. Not really a session not really an imperial. Not a huge fan.

Draft at Proof. Deep amber pour with a bubbly tan head. Dank, resiny citrus hops with a nice malty background. Sweet entry with tropical fruity hops, sticky resin, caramel malts with a nice lingering bitter end. Nice one from Swamp Head, probably the best I've had.

Pours a clear copper red on tap with pillowy off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of citrus from the hops and a hint of caramel malts. Taste follows, fresh resinous hops and not a hint of the booze. Pretty darn good.

On draft at Hurricane Grill in Vero Beach. Pours an attractive red amber color with a one finger fluffy head that dissipates quite rapidly. Nose is slight pine and citrus hops. Taste is a bit malt forward and finishes with a subtle hoppiness. Alcohol is well hidden. Enjoyed this a lot.

Draft at Brass Tap in Wesley Chapel. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a decent sized foamy beige head. Head fades rather quickly into a thin layer with a near solid sheet of lacing along the side of the glass. Aroma has some citrus pine hops with a touch of sweetness. The flavor is quite nice and balanced between the maltiness and hops. The 8.3% is extremely well hidden.

Light, sweet, and herby smooth hops in the nose. Pours amber lighter red in color with a mostly clear body and tan head. The flavor brings smooth lightly sweet hops on a medium excellently proportioned body.

2/10/12. On tap. Slightly hazed dark red pour with a big tan head that sticks. Slightly hoppy aroma, earthy and dank with a twinge of pine and citrus, on top of sweet caramels and a bit of chocolate. Rich flavor of caramel, slight roast, chocolate, tropical hoppiness, a touch of citrus, and a dash of hop bitterness. Not bad.
