An Imperial Red Ale with an overdose of six different types of hops. Sciaenops ocellatus, better known around Florida as the "Redfish," is an extremely popular game-fish which gains more and more notoriety each year. From early fall through the spring, Redfish can be found in the bays and inland waters of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of Florida. Florida enforces a slot size restriction on Redfish - anglers can only keep fish that measure 18 to 27 inches in length, with a bag limit of one or two per day, depending on the management region. Not too little; not too big; a "keeper" Redfish provides a strong challenge on light tackle, and a feast on the half-shell - a filet grilled with skin and scales intact. Much the same can be said about Scieanhops, a holiday celebration Ale, created by our brewers to meet craft beer anglerís thirst for a hearty red ale with a feast of hop flavor and aroma. This Imperial Red Ale was brewed the day after Christmas, using eleven malts and twelve hop additions; it weighs in at a healthy 8.3% ABV. We expect it to become a Swamp Head holiday tradition...

Bottle... Clear, deep, dark, Longhorn-orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. The nose is all about the hops - peppery, spicy, dank and musky. Full-bodied and oily with tingly carbonation. Bitter citrus rindy and tannic hops dominate the flavor. Lengthy, lingering, bitter finish. I typically hate imperial red ales, but this is tolerable for me. Surprising, coming from Swamp Head. I donít generally like their beers.

2/10/12. On tap. Slightly hazed dark red pour with a big tan head that sticks. Slightly hoppy aroma, earthy and dank with a twinge of pine and citrus, on top of sweet caramels and a bit of chocolate. Rich flavor of caramel, slight roast, chocolate, tropical hoppiness, a touch of citrus, and a dash of hop bitterness. Not bad.

Tallahassee, Fl - Proof - Brewing Company - on tap - part of the Florida Tap Invitational . Medium amber colored pour, soft off-white head with plenty of lacing. Flavor has some fruity accents dominated by sweet cherry accents, some nutty accents, just a touch of grapefruit citrus bitterness. Thick, rich mouthfeel. Pretty solid.

On draft at 7venth Sun Brewery. Pours a nice amber-orange color with a creamy off-white head. Nose is citrus, sweet malts, caramel, and a nice malt backbone spiked with hops. Flavor is similar with a great balance of malt and hops: I get nice caramel in the front followed quickly by a healthy dose of hops with pine and some grapefruity citrus. Medium in body and nice overall.

On tap, Proof Brewing, downstairs. Clear, dark tea colored beer with a thin frogsí eggs head. Tannic, west coast hop aroma. Mellow, woody, tangy, pretty good for a red. Acidic. Medium body. Long woody finish. Well done, although reds arenít my style.

750ml bottle in a teku. Pours deep brown/ruby with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of floral and piney hops, some toffee and caramel malts, light alcohol notes, and some dough. Flavor the same. Average texture. Interesting, but not the best beer.

Poured an amberish color with aromas of light pepper, some hops, light malt and a touch of floral aromas. Flavors were hosp, and malt with some light pepper added. Decent overall, would drink again.

Bottle thanks to Sean, unfortunately list in my rot box for a while. Gusher. Pours hazy red amber, medium tan head, nice lacing. Aroma is caramel pine. Flavor is about the same, light sweet, medium bitter with a sharp bite. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Not bad now, probably pretty good three months ago. Mea culpa

Tap, growler from Proof. Amber pour with a frothy off-white head and good retention. Aroma is citrus, caramel and pine. Tastes are same with eathy grassy vibe, little malt heavy. Leaves a long bitter aftertaste. nice creamy thin to medium palate. Nice enough.
