3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 larsga (5325) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 6, 2012
No head when finally served. Hazy opaque golden body. Fruity Belgian yeast aroma with pineapple notes. Dry-sweet vaguely funky pineapple taste with mealy spicy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish strawberry and kiwi aftertaste with resiny notes. Nice, subtle, and flavours well integrated. (0.25l draft at Popeye, Tokyo. Menu has it as "Swan Lake Belgian IPA Good", at 7%.)

On tap at Popeye as Swan Lake Belgian IPA. Hazy golden with a frothy head. Piney hop aroma. Medium bitterness, complex hoppiness blending with sweet malts. Interesting.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KyotoLefty (4725) - Kyoto, JAPAN - AUG 8, 2009
Draught at Eni-bru.
Very cloudy yellow-gold color with a very bubbly, thin head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, golden malt. Fruity, with some citrus and pepper. Interesting flavor: fruity, strong hops, ok malt. Belgian yeast fruitiness: with grapefruit and citrus. Long bitter finish. interesting and original, though maybe slightly confused. I like it.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 buzzoven (376) - JAPAN - JUN 6, 2009
Herbal flowery smell...smells like how I imagine a dandelion would taste. Lots of cherry and brandy on the nose...lovely stuff. Taste is quite complex and interesting involving the taste buds into various realms of bitter and sweet and other areas in between. Cotton candy, slightly smoked candy, Christmas cake, yuzu, melon. As it warmed could taste some pineapple, and melon...but not really classifiable as fruity. Great beer... challenging yet completely inviting. A brew to share and compare!
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Capa (1905) - Manama, BAHRAIN - MAY 30, 2009
Golden hazy colored. Spices, light hops, some earthiness. Similar flavor. This one seemed to be trying really hard to accomplish something but missed by a fairly wide margin. It wasn’t bad, but not great. I don’t think the Belgian IPA has been perfected by anyone, though.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 omhper (17458) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 19, 2009
Draught at Eni-bru, Osaka. Muddy pale orange. Orangey hoppy nose. Sweetish and lively, vaguely fruity. Slender and sparkling, like champagne. yeasty, but not overly so. Hops bring seville orange marmelade that grows into a pleasnt late bitteralmond finish. Perfectly executed - complex and very drinkable. Love it!
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TimE (2584) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAY 14, 2009
A Belgian IPA. I have had a few. I love Swan Lake’s IPA. This on the other hand is not as good as their IPA or other Belgian IPAs. In fact, I found this was a cross triple and IPA that went no where fast. Lots of yeast, some hops forsure with a touch of citrus, but not really balanced and being pulled into too many directions the beer was lost on me. If it is lost on me, I can’t imagine the average consumer could make heads of tails. Extra points for trying something interesting, but not executed well.
