Barley wine bottle share on 1/31. Cloudy amber orange, moderate white head. malty sweet nose on this , some molasses and dates, lots of alcohol. Heavy , slightly sticky body, some honey, brown sugar, fruit. Plenty of alcohol warmth.

well, it honestly tasted like an english barleywine that was madein japan, as dumb as that sounds .. murky tan brown .. mild foam .. lots of caramel, toffee, dead yeast, and egg roll paper .. finish has a bit of a linger .. . decent BW .. . . I would’ve texted you back but I was talking to my cats about insurance.

3 Dec 2014, bottle. dark/dirty orange, hazy. nose is rich, bready malt and mildly harsh alcohol, raisins. med body and moderately fizzy. raisins, bready malt, harsh alcohol, maybe some astringent woodiness. decent. good barleywine background but a bit too harsh alcohol.

Rich hazy amber, with a decent head. Blissfully fruity aroma. Stone fruit. Peach with the fuzz on it. Tangerine and raspberry jam. An explosion of lovely fruit aromas. Sharp citrus flavor and smooth barley body with a Screwdriver (vodka orange juice) like finish that sweeps on by.

New Beer Distributors, NYC 11.2 ounce ($8.25): Pours a murky brown with a off-white head. Aroma is full of sweet malts, some light hops, hints of booze, and some earthiness. Taste is slightly sweet, very malty, and somewhat alcohol. Not a bad barley wine.

Tap at the brewery restaurant. 1 year old, aged in the keg. Clear amber-orange with a touch of lace. Fruity, estery nose, caramel, oranges, apricots, light oxidation from age. Very fruity flavors, raisins, some toffee, hop bitterness and citrus flavors remain though mellow and muted, alcohol well hidden. Very smooth and mellow. Quite enjoyable. Definitely helped by the aging.

Bottle at a barley wine tasting. Pours a hazy amber color. Nose is filled with some caramel notes and seems malty sweet. Taste is also slightly sweet, with just a bit of booziness to it. Better than I thought it would be.

Pours a nice clear chestnut with a fairly thick and frothy buff head. Strong aroma has a malty core and notes of caramel, sweet fruit and clove. Flavor is strong but doesn’t hide the alcohol bite that lets you know this is a badass high-grav beer. Sweet malt and caramel dominate, but let snips of clove and apple through. Texture is fairly firm, fairly fizzy, leaving a sweet yet edgy alcohol finish. Gotta love the Japanese - they make great beer, better cars. (And yet, after donating my ancient Honda Accord to charity, I bought a new FORD!)

Bottle into snifter. Opaque, thick looking dark orange color. Sweet aroma, alcohol, licorice, herbal. Super sweet taste upfront, medicinal in the middle, bitter, even astringent finish. Medium bodied, smooth overall palate. This is a sipper for sure, best on a cold night after dinner in front of the fire.
