COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
SweetWater’s Sweet 16 Tribute: a Red Wheat Wine Ale Of course, SweetWater couldn’t throw a birthday bash without an honorary brew to celebrate such an occasion. The brewers went out of the box with this super heady limited-run Dank Tank release. With a license to brew, they stepped on the gas and whipped out a racy Red Wheat Wine (say that five times fast). This beer rips down the road at 11% ABV, fueled by a 45% wheat bomb and an after-burner hop shot of Amarillo, Willamette, Nelson Sauvin, and US Goldings creating a brew that is sure to raise some hairs.

Very nice deep copper color on this pour, with a gently formed, but durable head that was two fingers thick. The back label of the bottle was filled with helpful information about the contents, rather than the typical double entendre filled nonsense seen on Sweetwater Dank Tank series. The smell was underwhelming at first whiff, but revealed some candied apple like layering upon closer inspection. The taste was unusual for a whetwine, as there wasn’t much of a banana or orange phenols here. Instead it tasted more like a Belgian Quadrupel, with sweet cherries, plums, and other dark fruits. Unlike a Quad, there was bitter hop finish, and the alcohol burn hit shortly after than. This beer could definitely benefit from more age induced mellowing. The mouthfeel was little thin to me, but that may be due to the dry mouth sensation created by the hops. Not really true to style at all, but interesting.

22oz bottle pours a syrupy, translucent caramel amber with some lacing, white head. Nose is very boozy, brandy, some fortified red wine, a little grappa, some grape preserves, malt, caramel. Flavor is a little better, certainly more balanced, malt, a little wood pulp, orange, a little bananas foster, brown sugar, caramel, a bit of clove, a little bit of jam. Fairly smooth finish for 11% abv. My guess is, this beer is peaking now.

Dark, ruddy brown pour. All malt in the nose with some caramel, dried banana, and fig. Certainly on the sweet side flavor wise. Banana bread with caramel sauce and only a slight bitterness to balance things out. Warming finish. Not bad, definitely a dessert brew.

Had this after its been aged for a year, I thin the beer would have been better a year ago. The beer now taste like a malt bomb loads of caramel and sweetness up front. There isnt much depth but the beer is not very heavy and pretty drinkable, could easily finish the bomber

650ml bottle. This is a pretty god one here, definite hop character to combatthe large sweetness.

Bottle from the brewstravelers, thanks! Poured deep red with some yeast chinkies. Nose is toasty malts, spicy malts, smooth caramels, light toffee, rich bready malts, some citrus, cherries, dark fruits, dank fruits. Flavor is similar. warming, citrus, toasty, very faint roast, some rich spicy character. Really nice.

Red/brown pour with a light tan head. Aromas of sweet malts, brown sugar, and dark fruit. Flavor is similar with some slight warming from the abv in the finish. There is some type of sharp bite in the finish as well that I can’t quite put my finger on but I’m not a huge fan of it. Decent brew but still has a ways to go to be exceptional.

Bottle at my grandparents. Pour is hazy amber-brown with frothy tan head and great lacing. Figs, prunes, caramel, somewhat bready, grassy, banana and tangy aroma. Taste is red fruits, caramel, licorice, bread, grass, grapey, brown sugar, and raisins with a medium bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation.

22oz bomber courtesy of markwise. It pours with a ruby red to amber body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malts, molasses, prunes and dates with brown sugar sprinkled in there for good measure. The taste is similar with malts and molasses mixed with nectar like plum juice and dates dusted with brown sugar. It gets a tad hot here and there but pretty much to style for 11%. Nice sweet sipper.

From the 22oz bottle. Pours a reddish brown with little head. Boozy musty hop aroma, smells big. Smooth malt, boozy, hoppy, sweet taste. Lots going on and crazy strong, be careful.

Lots of spice in the flavor, thick floral malt. Candy sugar, sweet, slightly medicinal. Aftertaste becomes incredibly salty and makes it a bit hard to enjoy.
