UPDATED: SEP 5, 2005 Decent local Atlanta brew. A good crisp taste inittially but a bit of an aftertaste. Must but drank very cold. Does not stand up well to warmer temperatures

Low expectation.... Fairly high reward. poors with a light brown/amber color. Small head, but lasted awhile. smooth hoppy start, sweat caramel middle, with a refreshingly smooth slightly hoppy finish. little to no aftertaste. The palate is good, coats your mouth. thick and chewey...

This beer is ok, but not as good as sweetwater blue. I have 4 of them so i have to drink them. they get you drunk.

Itís easy to see why Sweetwater is making such an impact in the Southeast. The 420 Extra Pale Ale has a pleasing nose, great appearance and mouthfeel. One of the easier microbrews to drink in any amount.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2011 The only reason I wish I still lived in Atlanta, besides having a real job, is this beer. If anyone can get me some, Iíd cream myself. Hands down the best tasting beer no matter what cost. First time you try it you know youíre tasting something different. Second time you taste it youíre hooked. Update 5/3/11 Now available on draft in St. Aug. Distributor rumored to be at Hurricane Pattyís tomorrow night. Will re-rate then. 5/27/11 Now saturates the area. Rep said the IPA is a bigger sell. Still a favorite, but it tastes a little different now. Competes with my new favorites, Stone Pale Ale, Terrepin Rye and Drifter.

Bottle. Orange rind and apple malt aroma. Clear amber with little head. Sweet malt with hint of orange zest and moderate hops finish. Nice and drinkable with controlled hops flavor.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with goldtwins, thanks Larry!) While Iím not sure Iíd go so far as to agree with the brewers that itís a tasty West Coast Style Pale Ale, I do agree itís pretty tasty. The malts are pretty classic for a pale ale, a bit grainy, lightly sweet, and fairly light, but still flavorful. Hops is mildly bitter, not really fully balancing the malt, but complementing it nicely. Likewise, the nose is more malty than hoppy, and though not especially aromatic, itís very pleasant. Medium body, smooth and lightly carbonated mouthfeel. Dark golden, light amber in color, and topped by a small, but creamy and long-lasting off-white head. This is a pretty nice pale ale, nothing too crazy or challenging to the palate, but pleasant and easy to drink. A good session ale.

Good beer with a lot of hops. Can find it in most of Atlanta, but not everywhere in Georgia yet. All of the Sweetwater beers are great. Hope to see them in more places.

Had on draft in Hartsfield airport. Bartender warned me, "This is pretty hoppy." Didnít bother to reply, "Donít worry, Iím from Seattle." While certainly not mouth puckering, itís got a good hop flavor. A pretty tasty beer, and about the best Iíve had in the South.
