COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sweetwater Blue is a unique lighter style ale enhanced with a hint of fresh blueberry. When you drink this beer take a good whiff first and you’ll smell the blueberry influence, but on the taste it’s extremely subtle and the finish is extra clean. Ain’t no fruit beer, but it is our breakfast beer, usually folks that are looking to quench their thirst or for those that are new to the “good beer” lifestyle; this is their choice. This brew and the ESB were the original two to go through the tanks at SweetWater in February 1997.

Medals: Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Cup, Fruit Beer category; Always the funky favorite at any outdoor beer festival

Malt: 2 Row, Wheat

Bottle courtesy of her majesty drowland. Pours very light bodied. Yellowish color with light white head. Blueberries apparent on the nose. Very prominent. Taste is light fruit, some tart berry. Light mouthfeel. Not the best finish. Kinda bready.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle in a hotel bar. It pours a light gold color with a small, foamy, white head. The nose is full of blueberry, but I get a slight artificial feel from it. I also detect a slight bit of oxidation. The taste is an odd mix of blueberry and grass with a bit of candy sweetness. The mouthfeel is light and thankfully the finish is short. I can’t say I care for this blueberry beer.

12oz bottle. Pours hazy, light orange with a thin white head and specks of lace. Smells of light malts and blueberries. Tastes of blueberries first and foremost with a slowly developing malt character, dry and clean. Cereal malt flavors linger. Light body, good carbonation.

It’s a decent golden color with a small head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. The aroma is pure blueberries, which is very solid, except there’s nothing to indicate there’s a beer behind the berries. The taste is sadly not even close to as berry-loaded as the nose, and instead I catch a lot of wheat up front and only a nice mellow blueberry backbone. It’s not a bad tasting beer, but it’s not particularly remarkable. I’d drink them if you gave me some fresh; my bottle was pretty dated because the store I bought it from sucks.

A blonde ale with a thin white head. Lightly malty aroma. In mouth,a light malty ale with light solvent notes, light bodied....what, this is a blueberry beer...no blueberry detected here...tasted Dec. 29 2009, at Sweetwater Atlanta Airport.

on tap, pours light gold with a thin white head. Aroma is wonderful. Tons of fresh blueberry and muffin notes, doesn’t smell artificial. Flavor is thin and watery with pale malt, some metalic notes and a lightly sweet blueberry finish.

12 oz bottle courtesy of GAManiac. Thanks, Grant! An appreciated extra! Pours a bright straw yellow, clear, almost a touch of muted gold in there, well carbonated with a decent whitish bubbly head, dies to a small film, laces small. Largely, carbonation driven. Aromas are blueberry tannins first and foremost, a pleasant mellow sweetness, a touch of tart, almost muffin-esque, with a touch of cereal grain, but the nose really is allll blueberry. Initial is heavier side of light bodied, a mellow blueberry sweetness and cereal grains mix, leaving a nice sweetness on the palate and small bitterness on the backend to balance. The blueberries stay into the aftertaste and stick to the palate, not overly sweet, but a very nice example of a fruit beer that gives you real fruit flavor, without much excess sugar. Nice, crisp, cereal grains come in more.. the blueberries are done well. Nice to try Ol Belgian Blue Balls’ younger brother. Cheers!

Bottle. Pours a golden body with a white head. Fruit body with notes of berries, blueberries, peach and strawberry notes. Sweet with a light tart finish. Nice fruit beer.
