COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sweetwater Blue is a unique lighter style ale enhanced with a hint of fresh blueberry. When you drink this beer take a good whiff first and you’ll smell the blueberry influence, but on the taste it’s extremely subtle and the finish is extra clean. Ain’t no fruit beer, but it is our breakfast beer, usually folks that are looking to quench their thirst or for those that are new to the “good beer” lifestyle; this is their choice. This brew and the ESB were the original two to go through the tanks at SweetWater in February 1997.

Medals: Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Cup, Fruit Beer category; Always the funky favorite at any outdoor beer festival

Thanks to jimbowood for shipping this along to me. Pours golden with a soapy white head. The aroma has lots of authentic smelling blueberries, some pale malt and light papery trait. Medium / light body with minor carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of blueberries, medicinalness, some malt and peppery spice. The finish is a lot more phenolic. An okay fruit beer.

12/22/07 Picked up a six pack in Tennesse at Food City. This stuff smells like blueberries and has a taste like blueberries. However, not nearly as good as the Sea Dog or Ellicottville blueberry wheat beers I’ve tried.

Thanks to Margaret for bringing this back from Tennessee--Poured a clear copper golden hue with a medium sized white head. Nose of stalke grains and mild blueberry sweetener. Thin, mildly bitter and grainy mouth feel. Not that spectacular, slightly metallic in finish. Session-worthy.

Man o man does this smell like blueberry pancakes. Im getting hunry. The flavor doesnt stand up to the scent. Some blueberry but overall a bit to watery to me. Actually could’ve used more blueberry.

Draught into shaker glass. Pours a clear golden colour with no head or lacing. Aroma is slight blueberries and a little hop. Flavour is the same but enjoyable since it doen’t taste like fake chemical blueberries. Would like to try in summer vice winter.

bb 12-17-07 (whew!). Topaz and clear with a small head that fizzles out quickly. Aroma is tart blueberries. Flavor is the same. Light, tingly body is very refreshing. Nice brew; the fruit flavor doesn’t taste artificial as in some beers.

I love this beer... but after reading some ratings, I agree with most of them... it is thin, no head, nothing out of this world, but as one who does not like fruit beers, this one is great. The aroma is of fresh blueberries... I think what I like about this fruit beer is that it does not taste like fruit was added to beer... more like it was brewed with little bitterness and milder malt notes to let the blueberries take front stage. Great warm weather beer.

12 oz bottle from Jimbowood. This is the kind of beer that would never fare well on Ratebeer, but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Aroma is fantastic - light hops and tons and tons of Blueberries. The color is also a nice golden color and the flavor is light, refreshing with a hint of fresh hops and blueberries. This is a nice summer quencher.
