COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sweetwater Blue is a unique lighter style ale enhanced with a hint of fresh blueberry. When you drink this beer take a good whiff first and you’ll smell the blueberry influence, but on the taste it’s extremely subtle and the finish is extra clean. Ain’t no fruit beer, but it is our breakfast beer, usually folks that are looking to quench their thirst or for those that are new to the “good beer” lifestyle; this is their choice. This brew and the ESB were the original two to go through the tanks at SweetWater in February 1997.

Medals: Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Cup, Fruit Beer category; Always the funky favorite at any outdoor beer festival

Malt: 2 Row, Wheat

Hops: Centenial

Bottle shipped to me from NC to MN courtesy of McBeer. Blueberry aroma. Don’t get that everyday in a beer. In fact doesn’t smell like beer. Hazy gold with particalia. Thin white ring. Not as sweet as it smells, which is a good thing. Blueberries are there for sure, but subtle. Bready finish. Really nice. Refreshing.

On tap and shaker served at the Beer House Chicago in Lombard, IL., showing a golden hue, with a presentable layer of off white head foam, and good cling to the ribbony waves of lacing. The nose was soft grain and expressive blueberry that was more on the sweet side than tart. Light bodied, with lively carbonation, the blueberry was less expressive in the flavor. Refreshing, summery faire, nonetheless.

June 5, 2015 - on tap at the airport bar. Clear golden pour with limited head. Aroma was grainy with maybe a touch of spice and blueberry. The taste was a nice wheat beer, but the blueberry was a nice compliment. Very clean and crisp finish with carbonation that was appropriate for the style. One of my favorite wheat beers, even if the database classifies this as a fruit beer.

12oz bottle. Pours golden with a fizzy white head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is of blueberry, malt, and grass. Taste is of blueberry, malt, and grass. More of a blueberry pie flavor than blueberry. The blueberry dominates this beer, but doesn’t taste overly artificial. Lingering blueberry taste. Mouthfeel is light and very carbonated. Body is very light. Its not bad, its not offensive, but it is a very one note beer.

Aroma is pale malts, mild blueberry and beery. The flavor is blueberry/blueberry pie, pale malts, mild sweetness and a grainy/beery finish.

Pours a clear yellowish in color with a thin white head. The aroma is rather simple, containing a good amount of both blueberries and cereal with a lesser amount of wheat. The taste relies on blueberry and cereal flavors. These are complimented by grassy hops, wheat, and milder amounts of grapefruit and lemon. A slight blueberry aftertaste lingers on your palate for a bit. This is light in body, has a thinner texture, and is average in carbonation. That being said, I like this blueberry this one has going for it. Its the main theme, yet it isn’t overpowering. I usually don’t like fruity beers, but this one tastes pretty good and goes down well.

Aroma of fresh blueberry, some citrus. Nice pale yellow color with a thick white head. Sweet wheat flavors up front with a faint note of sweet blueberry....but not overpowering. Refreshing finish with a peppery bitterness that is mild. Blueberry full in the nose but light in the taste. Good session beer for summer. Nice beer

Old rating. Pale golden. Cereal body with artificial-tasting blueberry flavoring, slightly sweet and slightly metallic. Nope.

This is not horrible. The blueberry is pretty subtle making this somewhat less stupid than it could me. It’s cloudy yellow orange w/ a head of fine white bubbles. Nose is mostly Captain Crunch smelling grain w/ a hint of Crunchberry. I wish I was kidding about that. It tastes pretty much the same but is nicely dry w/ crisp carbonation and medium body. It finishes clean w/ some lingering Crunchberry. I could drink a whole lot of this if it came down to it so I guess that makes it OK enough for me.
