COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Belgian, Strong, Pause . . . for a moment and letís consider the Possibilities. Sure, you were thinking Pale but itís not at all pale. Rather the contrary. The P could stand for Perfect: perfectly befitting a warm respite in front of a fire on a cold February night Ė but we donít say chit like that. Youíll probably just drink this Belgian Quad like a session beer and hope for the best in the morning anyway, so screw it. Maybe the P stands for your favorite Pub, the place where you go to hang out, drink killer beer and enjoy life. Yup, thatís the one. The Quad part, well itís a style for sure, but it could be in reference to a collaboration between a Pub and a Brewhouse that opened in the same year out of friendships and a love for great beer. Yeah, those four things are in here too.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of jleblanc. Pours a cloudy, murky amber with a small off-white head. Sweet aroma of caramel and sweet overripe fruit, Some yeast and phenols too. Solid body, carbonation is lowish, lots of overripe fruit and caramel. Some prunes and honey. The yeast is not too dominant. Hardly any hops. Warming alcohol finish. A nice sipper. 230211

Bottle. Smells a bit old and boring, yet boozy as fuck., and a bit of cardboard. Looks decent though...deep red, solid frothing. Flavors a bit plasticy, generic, melted candy...I donít know...thereís nothing here that would make me want to revist this in my next 31/2 lifetimes. Ill probably get a dui later solely for the addition of this beer to my set list tonight.

unclemattie (4118) - Georgia, USA - JAN 24, 2011
22oz bottle, orange label. Cola colored, tan head. Very thick, creamy body. Smells of molasses and raisins, lots of alcohol in the nose. Palate is soft and creamy, ABV is well hidden. Flavor of toasted malts, dates, and lots of caramel \ chocolate malt, and a bit of fig fruitiness in the finish. Overall it is a very balanced and flavorful beer. Not very true to style at all. 01/10/2011 6,4,5,5,11

Poured into a goblet. Big thanks to jyounger30 for this treat. 4.0 A: Clear dark brown color. Two fingers of frothy head with less than average retention and some lacing. 3.5 S: I tried and tried to pick everything out, but the aroma is simply too weak. Itís pleasant, but not packing enough strength to win me over. Peppery Belgian yeastiness. Dark fruitiness including prune, figs, raisins, and black currants. 4.0 T: Taste follows the nose, but is much much stronger. Belgian yeastiness comes back with a vengence, sporting big pepper and tons of clove. Fruitiness follows the nose, but is 10 times stronger. I could be wrong, but Iím detecting some dark candi sugar. Thereís some alcohol in there, but it doesnít seem anywhere near 11%. 4.5 M: Lighter medium body, but chewy if that makes any sense. Spritzy Belgian yeast carbonation. Creamy and smooth with warming alcohol on finish. 4.5 D: I was very close to giving this a 4.5 for the taste, so I liked this one a lot. I donít know where the aroma was hiding, but if it came out this would be one hell of a brew. Still, very tasty and would like to have this again. I petition SW to make this a yearly seasonal. Bomber from Samís, Durham. Garnet pour, slightly thinner and less substantial than anticipated (or expected for the style). Minimal carb and retention. The aroma is nice enough, with expected notes of dark fruit, yeasty and bready malts, caramel, and moderate roasts. Slightly too sticky mouthfeel tends to undermine whatever complexity might emerge; or perhaps the beer could stand some aging. Either way, itís a competent quad but one that doesnít have many distinguishing qualities - certainly nothing that would demand opting for this over a good Belgian.
