COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a classic American Porter, poured on tap it has a good head that stays and leaves a nice lace. It is defined by its chocolate malt, medium body, and smooth mouthfeel. Balanced by the Golding and Columbus hops on the finish is a hint of bitterness. Don’t be afraid of the dark.

Most porters are darker. Aroma was roasted with hints of raisin. Taste was bready and roasted. Good but a bit unoriginal.

Nice dark appearance. Typical roasted-coffee porter aroma and flavor. Malty and drinkable but a pretty unoriginal example of a porter.

VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - DEC 5, 2002
Clear dark chestnut with some sediment. Thick, sticky tan foam. Furious carbonation. Mix of piney hops, chocolate and black malts in the aroma, though timid. Smooth, dryly chocolaty and lasting with a rich, burnt malt, cocoa aftertaste. Medium body. A touch fluffy. Dry malt base. Light hop bitterness initially. Smooth, oats? Hop aroma disappears though a sappy flavor builds as the body expands and turns creamy near the end. Finishes with a soft, powdered cocoa feel and astringent roasted malt base. Increased hop bitterness as well. A reasonable version.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2003 Thanks to Aracauna for this one..a walk in the dark with red night-vision glasses on..satin sheets of chocolate covered blueberries..ground coffee rug burn..hop greens..raisins..blueberry jam covered cocoa leaves..Woa..strange burp..probably a combo from the beer before..which might make a good black and tan now that I think about it..unfortunatly..I only had 1 bottle of each..

Dark brown, with some red poking through in the light, light lace. Coffeeish, somewhat roast aroma with just a touch of fruit. Body is semi-spritzy with a touch of malty sweetness and a little roast. Not a bad porter, the aroma reminded me of Smuttynose Robust Porter, which certainly isn’t a bad thing. Comes across just a little thin in the body.

Muddy coloured; cappucino aroma - frothy milk, light roast, even vague chocolate. Palate fades quickly but shows a little bit of bitter chocolate.

This poured out of the bottle very dark brown with a thin, tight head that disipated quickly. The initial nose was strong roast coffee. Roast coffee, almost smokey intital flavor leading to a dark, sweet malt flavor that finishes with a perfect bitter balance. A very nice, quaffable porter.

GABF 2002: Deep dark red-brown. Good head. Rich roasty caramel aroma. Smooth roasty coffeeish flavor. Nice balance.

Lighter than some porters, you can easily tell that it’s brown but it’s still dark enough that it looks black at a glance. Head is nice thick creamy light tan foam. It lasted through the very end. Nice roastiness in the aroma with a hint of chocolate. Some burnt flavors on top of the chocolate with a nice balanced citric hop flavor. Non the same level as their outstanding IPA, but still a great beer.

The professor went down to Georgia, he was lookin’ for some local to drink... This is a fine, really quite roasty and refreshing porter. Feels right, smells right, but more so than some others, has a real roasty challenge with a hop bit at the close. A winner! BUT I only got one! Where was my head!
