This is a classic American Porter, poured on tap it has a good head that stays and leaves a nice lace. It is defined by its chocolate malt, medium body, and smooth mouthfeel. Balanced by the Golding and Columbus hops on the finish is a hint of bitterness. Don’t be afraid of the dark.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown with a tan head that subsides to a thin film. No lacing left behind during this session.

Aroma: Chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla bean and herbal hops.

Taste: Bitter roast, herbal spicy hop, semi sweet chocolate, cocoa, sour cherry and ash.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, prickly carbonation.

Overall: An above average, complex tasty porter.

Bottle. Opaque black pour with a big creamy tan head. Aroma is faint, roasted, chocolate and coffee come through. Big flavor, more chocolate and coffee leaves a nice taste in the mouth. An exceptional porter.

Top notch. The nose is coffee, chocolate, and an intense maltiness. The beer is deep brown bordering on black with a small tan head. The taste is the same as the aroma chocolate with coffee. Delicious. The body is thick with a smooth silkiness. Great.

Deep malts and smooth finish mark this Porter as a true epic of brews. Good gravity but not overpowering, great with curried dishes, as those deep malts melt the spices from your palette. This is the most highly celebrated, and decorated brew in Sweetwaters arsenal for a reason. Don’t pass this one up!

A very robust and roasty porter. Huge coffee accents and rich flavor that follows through. This is a hefty beer and it’s tough to drink more than one or two at a time. This is a porter you can drink with a meal.

Pours black, medium head that fades quickly. Smells like malt and roasted peanuts. The hops are definately in the background here. Goes down smooth and refreshing.

Bonus bottle from goldtwins. Pours Coca Cola colored with a creamy tan head. Burnt Chocolate aroma. Flavors of chocolate and coffee and even some dark fruits. Awesome mouthfeel just this side of thick (for a porter). Smooth hop bitterness lies just below the surface. This is an outstanding porter!

12 oz bottle. It pours a dark brown or black with a small quickly fading light tan head. It has a roasted aroma and smells of coffee & chocolate. It has a wonderful complex flavor and tastes of chocolate, smoke, coffee, leather and tobacco. I love this beer and will probably buy it if I see it available again.
