Think this one is a tad overrated, not nearly as good as the Donkey Punch. Disjointed, a bit watery and muted in the aroma and flavor. Felt a bit light on the palate as well. ABV is not noticeable, didn’t even know this one was almost 9%.
ucusty (849), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jul 23, 2008 Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville NC. More trouble get into this beast then it was worth. Thin mouth-feel. Overly spicy beer and a twist of hops. JCB (889), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 20, 2008 Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to ucusty for sharing! 2007 bottle, a big impressive one. Facto worked the knife on the wax forever before getting this one open. Strange aroma, a mix of weird vegetal qualities and some winter spice. Deep brown pour, quite murky, fairly still. It’s moderately hopped, but it tapers off quickly and leaves a somewhat watery impression. gunhaver (541), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 15, 2008 Big ass bottle. Pours a clean auburn color. Frothy white head, and tons of filmy lacing. Aroma is real spicy. Some cinnamon, mostly. Fairly heavy on the malts. Flavors of nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice. Fairly nutty. Bread, and just malty in general. Light-bodied, very refreshing, clean and bright. The alcohol is nowhere to be found, very well-disguised here. csbosox (948), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jul 12, 2008 Large format ’05 bottle brought by Tjthresh to the 7/07 tasting. Reddish copper color with a light layer of carbonation. Aroma is earthy spice, raisins & plums. Taste is malty with dark caramel, earthiness, and spice. sebletitje (147), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 29, 2008 Curtesy of Gunhaver.
Ruby color, light foam. Aroma is of spices (maybe pepper/corriander) and malt, fruity with apples/figs.
Gives a nice warm aftertaste.
