3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 biermonk (259) - San Francisco, California, USA - DEC 19, 2003On tap at Summits Wayside Tavern-I thought this to be a very nice beer somewhat sweet with some nice fruity tones but not overly done. Not what I would expect from a Brown Ale but maybe that was the point.

One of the better renditions of an American brown ale, Sweetwater balances a mild earthy nuttiness with enough hops and malt sweetness to keep things in balance, and interesting. Pours a pretty reddish copper with a nose of caramel malt and hazelnut. Equally at home with a charred burger or a cinnamon sugar muffin, this brew is sessionable, flavorful, and versatile.

Brownies and coffee. First sip out seemed watered and young. I say young simply because of a lack of depth. Initial aroma out of the bottle was a bit funky like some cut weeds or grass in a place you’ve never been. Foreign type of smell. All and all not too bad. You could put a few away.
