COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Definitely one of the finer American Brown Ales. A deep copper colored, mild brown ale. SGB is accentuated by a slight nuttiness from its malt character. Designed to be a session beer it has a real smooth finish with a very subtle hop character.

Medal: Gold medal winner at the 2001 Great American Beer Festival – English Style Brown Ales.

Malt: 2 Row, Black, Victory, 30-37 Carastan, 70-80 Crystal, Chocolate

Hops: Columbus, Willamette

Brownies and coffee. First sip out seemed watered and young. I say young simply because of a lack of depth. Initial aroma out of the bottle was a bit funky like some cut weeds or grass in a place you’ve never been. Foreign type of smell. All and all not too bad. You could put a few away.

Tap - big khaki color foam head, very dark Amber/brown color, big bready malty aroma and flavor with some mild nuts, mild hop balance, very good overall

Bottle. This is a really malty and thick brown that is quite sweet. I like this style a little thinner and easier drinking.

DocJitsu (1183) - Florida, USA - MAY 27, 2015
Brown with a creamy, light tan head. Light toasted malt and faint fruit on the nose. Smooth and full. Roasty flavor with quite a bit of sweetness that is cut by bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a light, clear brown with red highlights and a sticky, fine-grained light tan head. Nose is molasses, port wine, smoke, beef broth, black tea. Smoky and savory up front; definite classic brown ale notes, though a little hollow in the middle. Not much sweetness at all, though there’s a little burnt sugar on the finish. Not bad.

Your basic run-of-the-mill stale chocolate muffiin brown ale but from Georgia.

Old rating. Pretty average brown. Nutty, malty, bready, some chocolate, slightly metallic. Eh.

on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear brown/black, thin tan head cover, a few lace dots. Taste is semi-sweet caramel malt. On the swallow, carbonation, hops, and a hint of cedar round things off. Very average.

Looks very good: dark amber color with a decently sized khaki head. Not too much on the aroma but smells of nuts and caramel. Tastes of nuts, caramel chocolate and a little bready (is that a word?). Aftertaste was metallic and not good. Medium to light body.
