COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It's nice to be able to finally brew some beer without restrictions on it. we came from Colorado where we could brew or try anything. We've been waiting 7 years to make a stout and we harnessed all that frustration into this batch of beer.

We didn't get caught up in the parameters of a specific style we just brewed a big fat hoppy beautiful beer. The timing of the law change couldn't have been better for us, because it has taken until this summer for us to get set up in our new brewery. We finally have some capacity to experiment with some new style. This could lead into a seasonal offering from us in the future. For now we're just glad we can satisfy the demands of the folks who have been on us since day 1 to make a stout.

Malt: 70/80 crystal malt, chocolate malt, black malt, roasted malt

Hops: Centennial, Willamette and cascade - on the dry hop!

Iíve been wanting to try this and finally got the chance. Surprisingly hoppy for a stout which I actually really enjoy. Super drinkable at 9% but not a full bodied stout. If you take this for what it is worth being an easy drinking thin stout with a nice hoppy compliment it is worth a try.

12oz bottle into a snifter. Pours pitch black with a very thick one finger dark tan head. Absolutely excellent head retention considering the strength along with a thick ring of lacing all the way around the glass. Aroma is a little lighter on the roast compared to other RIS and has more in the way of dark fruits and some pine from the hops. Tree bark, wet earth, and moss round out the aroma. The flavor has a mix of pine and tree bark/wet earth up front followed by just a touch of dark fruit. Hops are more prevalent here compared to some other examples of the style. Roast is present but it is in the background and remains restrained. Very light coffee notes along with pretty high bitterness. Sweetness is kept in check with almost not hint of the alcohol whatsoever. Overall, a very drinkable imperial stout with hops that really push the boundaries for the style. Extremely drinkable and a very nice beer from Sweetwater.

2013 bottle, aged for about 18 months. Pours a motor oil black with a good 4 fingers of frothy brown head that collapses on itself very slowly, leaving excellent lacing. Aroma is molasses, chocolate, and a little boozy--weak but probably diminished due to its age. Taste is a big chocolaty malt backbone with some licorice (remarkably little for the style) and a faint hoppy finish--finish could be a little longer and stronger. Thick and silky mouthfeel with just a touch of carbonation. This isnít the best imperial stout on the market by any means, but at $5.50 a bomber or $9 a six pack, itís hard to beat at its price range. A very well-done stout, but not quite an imperial stout.

Reviewed from notes. Rcvd in trade. This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking dark brown color with a nice two and a half finger-ed off white foamy head that dissipated within about a good two minutes. The smell had a nice blend of roasty coffee flavors to milk chocolate to dark chocolate. I also get a nice vanilla that seems to settle over my nose. The taste was sweet and roasty adding the vanilla into the blend of the chocolates. The palate sat about a medium on the body that wanted to show a decent sessionable quality to it but actually didnít. I found myself sipping this more. Overall, wow. I was pretty mesmerized by this brew. This was more than worthy of having again.

Normally not a craft beer fan of Sweetwater due to so many choices! This beer is excellent and has restored some value in their brewery with me!! A must try for those who like imperial stouts!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

What in the hell just happened?! This thing says its an "American Double / Imperial Stout", but it is much more IPA than Stout! No wonder the best if enjoyed by date is only a year away; this thing is loaded with hops! Its probably best defined as a Black IPA. Huge flavors! Fantastic, no matter the category confusion!
