4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 3, 2014 Bottle to glass. Jet black with medium khaki head. leaves lacing like no other. incredible. Aroma bitter nuts maybe some toffee, roasted malt, licorice, hops, coffee. My first offer from sweetwater. Taste is coffee, hop bitterness, roasty, burnt licorice, earthy. for the high abv, the alcohol is hidden well in the flavor. Well balanced. Full bodied. If this beer turned into a mystical woman I would have sex with her... Then drink her.

From a bomber. Pours very dark brown with a bubbly light brown head. Tastes like alcohol, bitter coffee, chocolate, nutty, and earthy malt. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells earthy, nutty, like roasted malt and burnt coffee. Thanks jheath99!

2013 bottle thanks to jheath99. Pours deep, dark brown with thick, creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, light earthy notes, faint prunes, and faint raisins. Favor is rich and chocolate heavy with some earthy bitterness, ash, espresso, and faint dark fruit notes; dry dark chocolate finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

1.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bottle via phaleslu via homer321 with a best before date of 12/31/11. So, yeah. Itís aged. Thanks guys for finally ditching this garbage juice on a guy who you know will actually drink it! Pours a thinish looking dark brown, almost black with a dark tan head that slowy rises and fades to nothing almost instantly. Aromas of molasses, anise, leather. Some dark fruit. Taste is nearly flat with a wicked dark fruit and liquorish note followed by a huge ash character coupled with a nice dose of wet cardboard and asphalt. Semi sweet. This is borderline undrinkable, buttfuck it, I WILL FINISH THIS BEER IF IT KILLS ME. Mouthfeel is thin and ashy, chalky. Almost no carb. Fuck, this is bad. Finishes on a note of backwoods Georgia cum dumpster trailer trash. Both you guys should feel bad about this beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
650 ml bottle from secret santa. thanks. Pours a blackish with a medium khaki colored head that has good retention. The aroma features roasted grains, barley, dark chocolate and some orange. The taste showcases more dark chocolates, well roasted barley, indistinct fruits, and bitter hazelnuts. The palate was just a bit thinner than I expect for an impy stout and the carbonation was soft. Finished long and dry with lingering dark chocolates. Overall: I like the fact that it was not sweet. Iím probably being a bit harder on this than I should--righteous stout.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Pours a black color with off white head. Roasty, chocolate, malty aromas. A lot of black licorice in the flavor, also some burnt malts. I am not a fan of this imperial stout

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sweetwater Happy Ending has a thin-to-medium, beige head, and an extremely dark brown appearance, with a thin lacing sheen left on the glass. The aroma is a mix of sweet, citrus fruity, somewhat piney, hop oils, and dark-roasted, licorice malt. Taste is of dark-roasted, almost charred barley malt, black cherry, licorice, pine, some citrus pith, black-strap molasses, and mellow bitterness. Mouthfeel is heavy and syrupy, and Sweetwater Happy Ending finishes semi-wet and surprisingly drinkable. RJT

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
12oz bottle into a snifter.
Pours pitch black with a very thick one finger dark tan head. Absolutely excellent head retention considering the strength along with a thick ring of lacing all the way around the glass.
Aroma is a little lighter on the roast compared to other RIS and has more in the way of dark fruits and some pine from the hops. Tree bark, wet earth, and moss round out the aroma.
The flavor has a mix of pine and tree bark/wet earth up front followed by just a touch of dark fruit. Hops are more prevalent here compared to some other examples of the style. Roast is present but it is in the background and remains restrained. Very light coffee notes along with pretty high bitterness. Sweetness is kept in check with almost not hint of the alcohol whatsoever.
Overall, a very drinkable imperial stout with hops that really push the boundaries for the style. Extremely drinkable and a very nice beer from Sweetwater.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2013 bottle, aged for about 18 months. Pours a motor oil black with a good 4 fingers of frothy brown head that collapses on itself very slowly, leaving excellent lacing. Aroma is molasses, chocolate, and a little boozy--weak but probably diminished due to its age. Taste is a big chocolaty malt backbone with some licorice (remarkably little for the style) and a faint hoppy finish--finish could be a little longer and stronger. Thick and silky mouthfeel with just a touch of carbonation. This isnít the best imperial stout on the market by any means, but at $5.50 a bomber or $9 a six pack, itís hard to beat at its price range. A very well-done stout, but not quite an imperial stout.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Reviewed from notes. Rcvd in trade.
This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown color with a nice two and a half finger-ed off white foamy head that dissipated within about a good two minutes.
The smell had a nice blend of roasty coffee flavors to milk chocolate to dark chocolate. I also get a nice vanilla that seems to settle over my nose.
The taste was sweet and roasty adding the vanilla into the blend of the chocolates.
The palate sat about a medium on the body that wanted to show a decent sessionable quality to it but actually didnít. I found myself sipping this more.
Overall, wow. I was pretty mesmerized by this brew. This was more than worthy of having again.
