CaptKirk (175), Hephzibah, Georgia, USA Oct 11, 2006 Poured beautifully in my pint glass. Darker then expected for a white ale. Citrus aroma with a punch on the first sip. Settle sweeter as I got to mid glass. Fairly hoppy with slight sting in the aftertaste. I like a this style of beer, but this was not one of my favorites. With that said, this was a very good offering from Sweetwater. Thanks Marty!

Aromas of yeast, citrus, lime zest, coriander. Acid, medium carbonation and body, lightly sweet and even bitter profile. Flavors are of lime zest, coriander and banana extract. WeeHeavySD (1871), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 3, 2008 12oz from kpresly77. Pours yellow cloudy with a tan ring. Nose is bitter and yeasty. Taste is sweet and light. This is a decent wit, not a bummer that I thought it might be. mtjoseph (29), Murderapolis, Minnesota, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle. Courtesy of tytoanderso. A somewhat cloudy pour reminiscent of what the Mississippi river looks like in a glass. Seems to be very carbonated. Large bubbles made up what there was of a head. A largely sweet smell comprising of yeast and citrus fruit. The flavor practically mimics the aroma with a pleasant dry finish at the end. I was a little surprised when the finish settled in. A decent summer beer, but not nearly as solid as others. otakuden (127), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2008 You know the saying "my ____ went to _____ and all they got me was this stupid t-shirt"? well, thankfully in my case it usually goes a bit more like this: "my parents went to ____ and brought me back some beer." in this instance, my folks were in Georgia for one of dad’s car race events so they brought me back a 6 pack of Sweet Water Brewing Hummer ~ a White Ale. What can I say, my folks know we well. Sometimes too well.
Hummer pours a hazy orange with hints of milky white along the edges and definitely in the head. Speaking of which, there was a small head, but not as much as I would have expected. I swirled the last bit of beer in my bottle to gather as much of the yummy yeasts that had settled on the bottom into the last pour of my Hummer into her glass. Sweet sour yeasty explosion in the nose, and for a moment I even detected the aroma of fresh hard-boiled eggs (a first for me) and sour citrusy notes. I take a sip. A sour citrus and yeast explosion, almost enough to pucker me taste buds. Definitely a different interpretation of a white ale I haven’t ever tasted before. A bit more into Hummer and I get intense granny smith apples and cinnamon and coriander. Rather dry with a light body so that the overall sour profile doesn’t overwhelm. Brussels lace leaves a scattered trail along the sides of my glass.
Hummer is like a one-two punch, sour yeasts and citrus zing up front for the first encounter with sweet apples and wheat coming up right behind. Probably the most unique white ale I have had so far, but definitely good. I was initially caught a bit off guard, but with each quaff Hummer grows on me and I enjoy it more and more. As I work on finishing my Hummer, little flecks of yeast and wheat start to settle on the bottom much to my delight, readying me for that final quaff.
A great summer beer, Hummer would be excellent out on the boat deep-sea fishing or relaxing on our white sands enjoying the warm sun, ocean breeze, and crashing waves.
