3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hickey (32) - Georgia, USA - JUL 21, 2009
Sold pour on tap at home from a 1/6th barrel. the head is tall and strong: probably a product of the freshness on the keg.
the aroma is hoppy and slightly sweet, though not overpowering. balanced if I might add. the color is a deep, cloudy, amber hue.
the flavor is immeadiately hoppy with a balancing malt backbone. some grapefruit, but more on the bitter side. the beer is smooth and balanced. plenty of mouth feel here.
overall, this beer is well worth picking up on draught the next time you get.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2009 Tons of citrus on this one. Bitter but not as in your face with it as other IPAs. Pours a hazy orange with a white frothy head. Wonderful session brew, and my standby IPA. Can drink this one by the pitcher.

bottle, pours a murky blond/amber with a medium white head. Aroma is grapefruit and hops with some sugar. Sweet malt, sweet/sour, and bitter hops. Really nice and drinkable with a variety of hop characteristics in the finish. Not bombarded by bitter which is nice. I like.

Draught. Beautiful dark amber body, decent lace, good white head. Sweet grapefruit hop nose, not quite pine but close. Nice hoppy bite in the flavor again citric and almost resiny, with a moderate caramel body. Smooth oily texture with a solidly weighted body, wonderfully reminiscent of lupulin. Great with spicy food.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2009 Take your favorite IPA and tone it down a t40% and this is what you get. The body isn’t quite light but you’ll have no problems drinking more than one with this floral aroma and piney taste to it. It’s balanced well for what it is but not upfront like most IPA’s.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheAlum (2981) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - JUL 2, 2009
12 oz bottle courtesy of a GAManiac trade thrown in as an extra from our wonderful trade. Pours a dull amber, darker with some orange hues, decent fairly bright white head, bubbly and soapy, laces a bit as it dies to a small layer, light haze. Aromas are a nice grassy lemony citrus, light florals and pale malts, it seems this might be lighter fare, but we shall see. Initial is decent in body, lighter pale malt and some crisp cereal and faint caramel notes, this brew throws a decent grassy hop character, lemon zest and florals, decent bitterness, finishing a bit weak, but a bit more mellow, with interesting citrus notes, faint gumball and grass? Certainly this isn’t a bad IPA and is quite sessionable, however it lacks the punch I like in my IPAs (More West-Coast-ish I desire). Not bad at all. Cheers.

On tap at Sweetwater Drafthouse, ATL. Dark deep gold, almost amber, nice lacing & descent head. Resin-piney with fresh-mown hay aroma. Hops-forward and so balanced it did not taste 6.9% at all. Nicely hoppy with excellent, pleasant after-taste. Perfect carbonation, not too dry. Is almost heavy-bodied & thick, but in the best way. Would definitely order again, highly drinkable.
