4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Kinz (2694) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - APR 3, 2009
UPDATED: MAR 14, 2010 I considered skipping past this to have one of the rarities from the last Richmond Gathering be my big 2000, but then I decided: nope, this was the one that I had been in sequence, and it was a fine IPA that was perfectly worthy as a memorable beer. I had this on tap at Tap in Atlanta. I also had it later at 2 other places in Atlanta, but those kegs were either old or the lines were in rough shape, or both, because what I had at Tap was significantly better. Thus, the Tap tap is what I will rate. Medium amber, decent head. Pleasant grapefruit accented hop aroma. Flavor was quite the grapefruit bomb, with some pleasant earthy, floral, and pine accents mixed into the background. Malts were there to provide some sweet biscuit balance, but this was a hop show. A very nice, when fresh, IPA. Something about just a random IPA consumed in a random bar in a random city on a random trip seemed quite fitting as number 2000. It has been a great trip getting there. RERATE: 3/14/10 - Just had this again on draft in Atlanta, the rating stands - just a great IPA.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GMCC2181 (1251) - Newark, Delaware, USA - MAR 22, 2009
Bottle shared by andrew. Thanks brother. Light orange in color. Great nose on it. Lots of fruit. Bannana, wheat, fruity hops. Taste is sweet, just a little fruit taste towards it. Texture is average. Kind of bleh in the after taste....Overall...nothing special except the nose...
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 biznizness (1047) - Mooresville, North Carolina, USA - MAR 17, 2009
UPDATED: JUL 27, 2009 Also on tap at the hotel bar in ATL. I do not agree with this rating. I would not say I am outraged, however. The description doesn’t fit well, it wasn’t super hoppsy or something. Kind of like a disappointing boring IPA like Weyerbachers before Double Simcoe (the one with the blue label, I’m talking about). I guess I"ll try it again since people seem to like it. Maybe I misjudged.
Edit 07/27/09: Had it again this weekend in NoDa. Must have been something wrong with the first taste, or the bartender gave me the wrong beer. It was much, much better. Not elite level IPA, had some weird metallic tinge to it, but really good.

Bottle courtesy of lithy– thanks Justin! Pours clear dark gold with a half finger off-white head with nice lacing. The nose is caramel malt and ripe citrus. The taste is orange, tangerine, toffee and pineapple with a tart grapefruit finish. Medium bodied. Good IPA!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 davidajensen (143) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 9, 2009
Bottle. Slightly hazy, orange color. Gentle flowery aroma and soft mouthfeel. I’d like a bit more bite in the after taste, but I don’t think that is what they were going for, so I won’t hold it against them. This is my favorite beer from Sweetwater.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 PilsnerPeter (2958) - Flushing, New York, USA - MAR 9, 2009
Bottle: Thanks Secret Santa! Pours an orange color with good clarity and a dense off white head. Aroma is of mild citrus- a touch catty, mild butterscotch (diacetyl) and mild resiny character. Nice fluffy mouthfeel. Simple flavor- a touch catty with a light sweet malt (nutty crystal) notes as well. Subdued citrus hop notes throughout. A bit simple.
