Road trips are balls-out adventures loaded with unexpected twists, just like when this beer hit black ice and got spun!. It started out as an IPA recipe, but halfway down the road it blew a tire and a Pilsner yeast was pitched as a spare; an IPP yo! The fiery Pilsner backbone adds a nitrous-like boost to the van load of hops that would make any German pucker up when those hop afterburners singe their lederhosen!

Brewed with a Lager yeast at Ale temps using Sterling hops and Pilsner Malt to make this a crisp and hoppy twisted up seasonal treat.

Bottle into a pilsner glass. Best by 05/24/2015 so over a week past freshness date and it was priced accordingly. A: Medium gold with a slight haze and an inch of head retaining nicely. Lots of carbonation and good lacing too. S: Light bread scent with a faint spicy hop note in the background. T: A bitter herbal taste up front fairly dominates anything coming in behind. Not altogether good. A bit of a round maltiness finally detected but too little too late. I guess the hop bombs were diffused with age. M: Medium body and slightly above average carbonation. Pretty average. O: This beer is past itís freshness date which may explain itís herbal/vegetal character. Iím sure it deserves another rating and maybe it will receive one but it will be a while before I purchase this again. Not very good.

Bottle poured a golden in color with a thin coating of white head. Aroma has pilsner malts, grains, and some light hops. Mouth feel is light with good carbonation. Flavor has the pilsner snap, pale malt, mild hops, and light bitterness into the finish.

On tap in the Atlanta airport. Poured a medium gold, clear, decent head. Aroma was pale malts and some spicy/floral/faintly citric hops. Flavor a match. Dry on the finish, fairly bitter but not over the top. Hops more subdued on the palate than expected, but pleasant. Very, very faint hint of a rubbery note - now that I see the description of lager yeast at ale temps, that makes more sense. Not bad. Not remotely a California Common by any stretch.

Bottle (BB July 14, 2015). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit, apricot). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The nose is a bit mild and quite simple, a straightforward grapefruity hop affair. Quite bitter in the finish, rather citric as well. A "steam" beer by process, apparently.

Light lager aroma with some earthy hops. Pours a slightly hazy light straw with a thin white head. Earthy and spicy hop notes are the predominant flavor, with a touch of sweetness and a lingering bitter finish. Very light bodied and easy drinking. A very nice, light drinking spring beer.

Sweetwater Road Trip has a thick, frothy, white head, a semi-hazy, yellow-gold appearance, powdery sediment, and heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sharp, sweet, white bread, some lemon, and pungent yeast. Taste is of sweet, bitter, lemony, sourdough bread. The bitterness, in fact, is quite pronounced. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Sweetwater Road Trip finishes crisp and refreshing. RJT
