Second Helping IPA - IPA brewed with Juniper Berries

Sometimes a beer is more than a beer – it’s hope. Our goal with Second Helping IPA is just that. We tag-teamed this IPA, brewed with juniper berries, with our pals at The Giving Kitchen – an awesome local organization dedicated to helping folks from the hospitality industry who have hit a rough patch or experienced catastrophic emergencies.

Second Helping will be a limited release brew only available in Atlanta, and 100% of profits from the beer will be donated right back to the amazing stuff The Giving Kitchen is doing.

Clear orange body with an off-white head. Hop aroma of citrus and pine resin with just a touch of Juniper. The flavor follows the aroma. Not too much Juniper but it is there as an accent.

Atlanta, Ga - Tower Wine, Beer & Spirits - 22 oz bomber. Pours a sparking dark copper with a thin, but persistent off-white head. Aroma has some heavy spruce and juniper accents. Belly warming flavor with plenty of hoppy citrusy resiny goodness, some nuttiness, a hint of the advertised juniper. Thick, sticky mouthfeel. Solid IPA.

Pours a clear golden brown from the bottle with bubbly off-white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma is resinous pine hops, hint of malty sweetness, a touch of earth. Taste is big on the juniper, but smooth and well balanced with the hops and malty sweetness. Just a slight bitterness, mellow carbonation. Solidly average.

Sample draft from Raleigh Rare beer fest: thinking the juniper berries didnt help it all.

Bomber from Holmes. Being a sweetwater ipa this smells and tastes a lot like the regular ipa. Great hop aroma but with a little more body and bite than the other.

Clear golden with a thin white head. Aroma is light grapefruit hops. Flavor is mild grapefruit hops with a thin body and dry finish. Juniper isn’t overly noticeable though there is some noticeable floral notes. Not bad. Wife: 3.4

Pours red with a fluffy, lacey head. Nose is citrus, pines, flowers, sweet malts, orange peel, candy malts. Flavor is sweet caramel malts with a punchy, citrus, and floral hop quality. Medium full bitterness. Pretty solid-pretty fresh.

22oz bottle. Reddish pour. Resiny hops aroma, nose has some sugary malts as well. Mostly hops. Very bitter flavor, loads of pine, faintest hint of bitter juniper. Sticky mouthfeel, nice malt backbone. A nice IPA, not much further from their ’yellow label’. (3960)

Bomber. Great looking orange amber color. No head. Light c hop aroma. A little more faint then many if their ipas but still a distinctly sweetwater hop profile. Good balance with some light caramel and toffee flavors. Finish is a little citrus grapefruit. A bitter metallic but nice taste stays with you for a while. Subtle but entertaining.
