Second Helping IPA - IPA brewed with Juniper Berries

Sometimes a beer is more than a beer Ė itís hope. Our goal with Second Helping IPA is just that. We tag-teamed this IPA, brewed with juniper berries, with our pals at The Giving Kitchen Ė an awesome local organization dedicated to helping folks from the hospitality industry who have hit a rough patch or experienced catastrophic emergencies.

Second Helping will be a limited release brew only available in Atlanta, and 100% of profits from the beer will be donated right back to the amazing stuff The Giving Kitchen is doing.

Tap. Let me start by saying i hate juniper. I asked for a taster and was pleasantly surprised. Just tastes like an IPA and a pretty good one.

Tap @ The Porter: Clear gold with a sustained off-white head. Hoppy aroma of juniper and a little citrus. Green musty hop flavors. Well done IPA.

Solid IPA definitely heavy on juniper. Amber colored. Lots of floral and juniper on the nose. The taste was pretty well balanced with junipers and citrus. Crisp. Medium bodied. Pretty good stuff for a good cause.

1/15/16. Bomber from Five Points. No matter the cause, itís never okay to [try to] work numbers into words as a beer name. So silly. Anyway... amber pour, nice khaki head, good lacing. Juniper pops on the aroma for sure, citrus, some dankness. Juniper on the flavor, usually something Iím not a fan of, but this isnít bad, melds well with citrus, dank hops, mild crackery aspect. Sort of like a tasty, citrusy Tom Collins but less sweet. I donít mind this one bit!

Slighty hazy copper coloured body with a bit of a tan head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of pungent and dank hops along with a touch of gin and juniper berries. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal hop flavours with a big bitterness and a lot of floral notes at the end with some spices noticeable. Aftertaste shows a good balance of malt as well, with a proper caramel malt flavour coupled wiht the pungent hops. Overall, a nicely finished beer with a good set of flavours and a proper balance. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from The Charleston Beer Exchange a few hours ago on 19-April-2015 for US$6,49, sampled in my hotel room here in Charleston, South Carolina on 19-April-2015.

Bomber. Might be slightly overrating this because I just tasted 4 awful beers before it, but despite that, this is really good stuff. Nice floral aroma with a hint of pine. Taste is similar, and the palate has a soft maltiness to it that seems to fill your mouth a bit. Slightly dry finish, yet clean. Well done.

Nice extra from westmeister-thanks, West! Deep copper color. Big hoppy nose, mostly floral and pine. Full bodied, but not malty, bitter hops, solid IPA. Donít get the juniper, but there is some fair astringency that could be from it.

Golden amber body with a white head & amazing lace. Fragrant floral, juniper berry, pine needle notes. Malt cedes to high hop profile.

Clear orange body with an off-white head. Hop aroma of citrus and pine resin with just a touch of Juniper. The flavor follows the aroma. Not too much Juniper but it is there as an accent.
