Second Helping IPA - IPA brewed with Juniper Berries

Sometimes a beer is more than a beer – it’s hope. Our goal with Second Helping IPA is just that. We tag-teamed this IPA, brewed with juniper berries, with our pals at The Giving Kitchen – an awesome local organization dedicated to helping folks from the hospitality industry who have hit a rough patch or experienced catastrophic emergencies.

Second Helping will be a limited release brew only available in Atlanta, and 100% of profits from the beer will be donated right back to the amazing stuff The Giving Kitchen is doing.

Sampled on draft at Hough’s this beer poured a cloudy orange-mango color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that left incredible lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy with tropical fruit and pine elements. The flavor was tangy and very sweet with notes of tropical fruit, pineapple, grapefruit and moderate bitterness. Long sweet and hoppy finish. Moderately full bodied. Well done.

Bomber from Hop City Krog Street Market. Pours hazy orange with a great head. Pine aromas peeks out over pineapple and caramel sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium heavy. Decent bite from the hops throughout. Some decent notes of pine and herbs cut through in the flavor with a bit of citrus. It finishes on the sweet, malty side of the style. Like their other double IPA’s, this one falls short of the depth and sheer drinkability of their flagship IPA.

Pours a light amber color. Aromas of tart, bitter juniper with hints of veggies and malts. Flavor has a nice piney juniper bite to it, with a mellow malty flavor with a nice hoppy dry finish.

Tap. Let me start by saying i hate juniper. I asked for a taster and was pleasantly surprised. Just tastes like an IPA and a pretty good one.

Tap @ The Porter: Clear gold with a sustained off-white head. Hoppy aroma of juniper and a little citrus. Green musty hop flavors. Well done IPA.

Solid IPA definitely heavy on juniper. Amber colored. Lots of floral and juniper on the nose. The taste was pretty well balanced with junipers and citrus. Crisp. Medium bodied. Pretty good stuff for a good cause.

1/15/16. Bomber from Five Points. No matter the cause, it’s never okay to [try to] work numbers into words as a beer name. So silly. Anyway... amber pour, nice khaki head, good lacing. Juniper pops on the aroma for sure, citrus, some dankness. Juniper on the flavor, usually something I’m not a fan of, but this isn’t bad, melds well with citrus, dank hops, mild crackery aspect. Sort of like a tasty, citrusy Tom Collins but less sweet. I don’t mind this one bit!

Slighty hazy copper coloured body with a bit of a tan head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of pungent and dank hops along with a touch of gin and juniper berries. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal hop flavours with a big bitterness and a lot of floral notes at the end with some spices noticeable. Aftertaste shows a good balance of malt as well, with a proper caramel malt flavour coupled wiht the pungent hops. Overall, a nicely finished beer with a good set of flavours and a proper balance. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from The Charleston Beer Exchange a few hours ago on 19-April-2015 for US$6,49, sampled in my hotel room here in Charleston, South Carolina on 19-April-2015.
