jsquire (2086), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bottle thanks to craftbeerdesign. Clear reddish amber color with a thin off white head. Nose of wet grains and burnt toast, with hints of play-doh. Lots of brown sugar sweetness, some toasted grains, a little nuttiness and a slight hop presence in the finish. Not very complex, but an easy drinking brown ale. beernovice39 (237), South Carolina, USA Nov 4, 2009 My bottle has a fish on it etc. Taste is balanced and smooth but a bit weak and thin. Courtesy of brentfeesh. Hazy deep amber with a rough off-white head. Sweet nutty aroma with some perfumy hops. Medium body, overripe fruit and nuts. Perfumy hoppiness but not bitter at all. 111009 williamherbert (420), Syracuse, New York, USA Aug 31, 2009 The appearance is hazy ruby red. Finger of pillowy white head. Tiny bubbles. Nice color, nice-looking.
The smell is a complex malt character. Some of the more bitter elements of an amber, with dry German aspects. On top of that, a sweet, sugary brown. Likewise, a flowery hop on top. Odd, but good.
The taste is nuttier brown than in the aroma. Less sweet, more dry. A little bitter malt too; balance of German and amber flavors in the malt. The hop is strictly an accent here, takes a backseat. As it warms, roasted malts like a porter.
The feel is creamy and substantial, but not thick. Minor fizz, but smooth too. A good beer overall, easy to slug down but not wimpy. It’s a complex, malty concoction. radagast83 (1269), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Aug 22, 2009 On tap at Atlanta airport. Pours a medium copper color, with small head. Aroma is light caramel and roasted nuts. Flavor is a smooth, mild nutty one, with caramel and toffee. Not bad.
