3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Growler shared with a friend The porter poured a deep black color with frothy tan head that quickly dissipated. The aroma was of roasted malts and chocolate. The taste is more complex with roasted malts, chocolate and spicy peppers. The medium body porter had soft carbonation. The finish was dry with a hint of spicy pepper.

Tap. Pours dark brown to black with some light permeating and a medium, bubbly light tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is smoky, meat, chipotle, chocolate and nutty, light roast malt, no detectable hops, prune and date notes. Flavor is moderate dark malt, chocolate, moderate smoke, chipotle, light spice, prunes, dates, and a sweet palate with light drying at the end. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
first things first. This is not a Porter. I can see through it. This more akin to a brown ale. Some slightly malty notes on the nose. Pours amber that you can see through with very little head that dissipates quickly. A bit of the chipotle can be tasted on the finish. Not bad but it’s no porter.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap - pours a dark red with a finger of head. Not getting a lot of aroma, a little malt maybe? Taste is overpowered by the bit of the chipotle. It learns bitter, but my taste buds are now ruined. Palate is creamy. Overall if they tame the gimmicky chipotle it might not be half bad.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A good porter. The chipotle isn’t overpoweringly spicy, but it does add a nice note of smoke and herbs on top of a nice malty, chocolaty background. I would definitely drink this again.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: Deep brown color with a small, smooth, off-white head.
Aroma: Light nose with notes of coffee, caramel, and a touch of smoke.
Flavor: Roasty bitterness, a bit of smoke, and not much else. I didn’t get any chipotle at all. A touch on the watery side.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium-light mouthfeel and a medium-short finish.
Overall: It seems like there is good potential here, but the beer didn’t live up to it in my eyes.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On Tap at Northern Virginia Summer BrewFest. Pours a dark brown color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is caramel, coffee, and a very mild pepper. Flavor is light (compared to other porters) - rich roasted, chocolates, and no noticeable heat until the liquid hits the back of the throat - then there’s a mild and enjoyable spice "burn."
