3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Slight cloud in appearance while orange in color. Attractive floral nose. First taste is a well represented American Pale Ale - piney and citrus on front of tongue followed a backend bitterness.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap 6 oz. sampler at Sweetwater Tavern in Centreville, VA.
Clear, golden yellow with a fine off-white head and very good lacing.
Aroma of caramel, citrus and pine.
Taste of bitter citric hops, floral hops, pine and caramel.
Medium/full body and medium/high carbonation.
This year's version is a dramatic improvement over the last version (2010) I tasted. This has better lacing, more hop intensity and a better mouthfeel.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A very light pale ale. Nice golden color and a frothy white suds. A bit of a bitter aftertaste but not overwhelming.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a golden / amber color with a small head. Notes of earthy and citrus hops with a decent malt backbone. Lacking depth of flavor the structure is good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Merrifield location. Not sure how the pour looked as it was brought to my table, but it still retained a small white head when it arrived at the table. Body was medium-dark yellow. Aroma was hoppy, with a notiable nose of citrus and a touch of yeast and a good helping of sweet malts. Pretty dang refreshing.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A pretty good IPA, has a nice hoppy bite. The hops aren’t so much flowery as they are piney and citrusy. The hops are painted on a solid malt canvas. I like this beer a lot and will probably buy more growlers of it.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft @ Merrifield. Chill hazed golden straw colored body with a white head. Nose of sharp pine cone hops, lemon zest and dry cracker pils malt. Flavor is sharply bitter but not pungent or dank at all, more like a sharp ESB with C-note hops. Medium body, very fresh, but with some malt-extract-like twang on the back. But otherwise fairly good and easy to drink, if a little simple overall.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at Centreville location. I think the newest batch of this stuff may be a different recipe than previous years based on the very average past reviews in contrast to the 4+ reviews given on the recent version. This is an excellent ale, somewhere between an APA and IPA. Golden color with full flavor, somewhat strong bitter hop finish. Aroma and flavor is grapefruit/pine. Another sessionable brew from Sweetwater that isn’t too harsh on the palate (or the wallet)

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Gold color with a heavy, hoppy aroma. A very well balanced ale that gives you the full flavor you expect from a gold ale. I really liked this beer, I would highly recommened this if you are ever at Sweetwater having some beers.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at brewery. Orangish gold color, very slightly hazy. Tiny white head. Pleasing hoppy aroma. Really well balanced flavor of grapefruits, pine, cirtus, and sweet sugars. Tastes like a lot of small micros I’ve had out west, but truly unusual for a brewpub in Virginia. If I could buy this one in stores, you better believe I would.
