On tap 6 oz. sampler at Sweetwater Tavern in Centreville, VA. Clear, very dark mahogany with no head and fair lacing. It appears the head was removed before serving. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, wood, grain, caramel and a touch of light fruit. Taste of sweet roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, coffee, smoked wood and nuts. Medium/full body and low/medium carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Sweetwater-Merrifield. From memory. Pours a medium brown with large tan head. Aroma is roasted malt with some coffee. Taste is same with some added sweet caramel. Decent, one of the better offerings from Sweetwater.

Translucent chestnut, oily cream top, large bubbled ring. Nose is rich roast, wood, caramel sweetness in check by grain. Flavor is fantastically balanced, so much toasty grain and honey, huge balance, yet so delicate through the silky finish. Fantastic shit.

Growler thanks to EricE. Huge tan head formation. Rocky and sheen. Great lace and retention. Roasty, sharper nose with some melon fruitiness. Taste is tangy, roasty, mild coffee, soil, earth. Dry, tangy palate. Drier. On style. Sessionable roasty lager. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Almost black, thin beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of chocolate strup with a bit of pine. Taste is bitter chocolate added to lager. I’m not sure the combo really works.

Tap at Centreville. Pours clear black with a medium, frothy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (roast, chocolate, coffee), average hops (spicy), and notes of prune and tar. Flavor is average malt (toast, coffee, chocolate, roast), average-light hops (spicy, floral), and notes of tar and charcoal. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth with a dry finish.

Sampled at RBSG Grand Rapids. Deep amber pour. A little bit of soft cocoa. Fresh and earthy. Cocoa overlying some mostly pale malt. Fairly clean finish though. A touch of roast on the back - but nothing crazy. Long lingering bitterness.

Had this courtesy of Ryan at the Grand Tasting during RBSG. Pours a clear ruby tinged brown with a thin white head. Coffee and toast, roast and light smoke. Thin mocha and roast. Cocoa and toast.

Growler shared by Ryan (thanks!) at the RBSG Grand Tasting. Poured slightly hazy dark amber with a near white yellow brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was dark grains with a bit of caramel and grassy notes. Flavor had some more smoke combining with some roasted malts and grassy notes.
