It is appropriate that it is named a lager even though it is truly a dunkel in style. It is a weak version of the style. That means it is better than the average beer, but still a disappointment.

Dark amber red with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel and light floral hops. Flavor has notes of toasted malt, caramel and nuttiness with a light hop character. Mouthfeel was medium with moderate carbonation. Decent lacing, ok head retention. Although I havent’ had many dunkels up to this point, I was expecting something on the sweeter side with more body, and a hint of smoke I guess. Overall this was ok.

(Merrifield) Crystal clear copper body with healthy off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, strawberry rhubarb pie, light sour. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, light eathy, chocolate. Finishes with some lager yeast sourness. Watery, light-medium body. Seems to be missing some of the sweetness for the style.

On tap in Falls Church. Malty with big buckwheat honey aroma. Light flowery hops, neutral fruit. Coppery amber clear with thin head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Caramel malt, honey sweetness. Residual grain notes, cherry wood, and mild flowery hop note. Light bitter finish with residual sweetness. Sweet nutty after. Like a sweet nut brown ale.

good color and aroma for a dunkel , but i found the taste to be underwhelming. There was very little malt or sweetness. Just a slighly bitter hop flavor which should never be strong part. Good try but no.

One of the five beers in a sampler pack. This one was in the middle (rate-wise). A fairly decent lager, nice color, easy to drink, but served much too cold. The flavor and aroma would have been more prevalent if a little warmer. But that could be said with all the beers served that night. I hope to not purchase this particular beer again, however.
