What happens when a 500 year old Belgian style ale gets rear-ended by a truckload of pompous American hops? It equals one heck of an ambulance chaser of a beer. This is an American style Belgian IPA, with a subtle phenolic flavor in combination with citrusy/piney hops, well balanced at 6.2% and 55 IBUs, with a tart, dry finish. Grains: 2-Row, Wheat, Flaked Oats Hops: Bravo, Ahtanum, Centennial, Cascade Dry Hop: Ahtanum, Centennial, Simcoe Yeast: Strong Belgian Ale ABV: 6.2% IBUs: 55

Pungent sticky hop aroma, pours a clear dark yellow with a thin white head. The Belgian yeast strain comes forward in the initial flavor of the beer with some spice and fruit notes, it’s then swiftly overtaken by some grapefruit and pine, with a short bitter finish. Light bodied and easy drinking, I think this would be even better in the warmer months.

Pours light orange with a pungent hop aroma. Body is citrusy and bitter but then finishes with a subtle sweetness of the Belgian yeast. The hops overpower which is not a bad thing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sweetwater Whiplash White IPA has a thin, white head, a clear, bubbly, orange appearance, an enormous amount of white sediment spiraling about, and moderate lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of the sweet, pine resin, light grapefruit type thing, and the flavor is of white bread, hop resin, rather low bitterness, sweetness, and grapefruit. The key word, here, is "citrus fruit". Mouthfeel is light to medium and prickly, and Sweetwater Whiplash White IPA finishes semi-dry and easy drinking. RJT

Appearance: pours with a large off white head, the beer is a very hazy golden color, you can see particles in it Aroma: light grass, pine, faint Taste: bitter throughout, not much from the malt Palate: lighter mouthfeel, average carbonation, bitter aftertaste Overall: kind of lacks the complexity I was expecting, mostly just a bitter beer, not much from the hops besides the bitterness and no malt to speak of ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice wheat IPA with a good balance between the characteristics from both types. Rather mild for an IPA, but a good brew indeed.

On tap at BW3s in Metaire. Pours a cloudy yellow with large creamy white head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong simcoe and earth. Thin mouthfeel with light hop, very watery, light bitterness. Off

Draft at Snallygaster 2014. Handed to me by someone. Poured a slightly hazy yellow color with a small fluffy white head. Aroma was light resin notes, chewy citrus hops, lemon zest. Flavor was nice pine and citrus notes. Enjoyable hoppy character, with a little bit of Belgian yeast notes on the finish.
