Swinkels was a beer recommended by the bartender to try for once. Well I tried it for once, and it will be the last time. It’s not because I didn’t like the beer, it was because it’s not an interesting beer. If you serve it into a random pilsner glass, like Heineken or Bavaria, you will not notice the difference. Same colour, almost no aroma. The taste disappears quickly leaving you feeling like you’re missing out on something. Quite disappointing unfortunately
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JPDIPSO (4956) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - APR 28, 2004
I remember the first time I had this brew some 20 years ago. It was at Paddy’s Pub in Madison, WI. We all thought it was called Swinkels because it had flakes of protein, or other stuff, floating about in it. My Brother-in-law and I still refer to these flakes in any beer as swinkels. Enough of the history. Light golden color with a moderate white head. Light floral and noble hops aroma with a small backdrop of pale malt. Start is lightly floral sweet with a later hops bite that keep so me of this sweetness in check. Fairly run of the mill.

Smells like Heineken, tastes like a lighter version of Heineken, but man, it ain't Heineken.

The one I tried was 4.8 strength and not 4.5. Bought in a Paris supermarket I thought I
was getting a traditional offering from a Dutch family brewery. But I was wrong what I had was a typical Euro Fizz.Nothing really wrong with it then nothing really right with it. The word bland was invented for this beer.

Had a six pack of this once. Very light beer. No real taste or substance. Think Heineken light but what did i expect for $4.50 a 6 six of import.

Looks, smells and tastes like Heineken. I liked it - now I want to try their Brown Ale.
