COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: This Imperial Stout is based on a blend of pale, wheat, caramel and black malts. The aroma from lots of American hops mingles elegantly with the aroma of dark malts, after which the beer will surely surprise, when spicy tones such as coffee strikes the taste palette - along with the hops. Håndlangeren can be enjoyed alone, for example as "the night’s last beer", but it also commits itself excellent with more powerful dishes such as cheeses. It will evolve with age and can be stored for many years.

It’s pitch black with a huge, light brown and creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, ashes and a touch of anise and subtle licorice. The flavor has a light sweetness and a dry light bitterness with notes of roasted malt, citrus and a touch of ripe fruits, licorice, hints of coffee and the finish is dry with a light bitterness and a touch of ashes.

Bottle @ home. Pitch black, small tan head that settles quickly, nice lacing. Aroma, roasted malts, lots of coffee, coffee, dark fruits, chocolate, hops, alcohol, vegetables. Taste, roasted malts, coffee, coffee, bitter dark chocolate, brown sugar, hops, caramel, spicy. Roasted malt, chocolate and dry liquorice in the aftertaste. Maybe a bit unbalanced. Would be nice with a barrel aged version.

Pours a black body with a small-ish, medium brown head that reduces to a thin layer and laces the glass well. The aroma is strong and roasted as it should be, with coffee, dark caramel and chocolate. Also quite much fruits, some alcohol and a herbal touch. The taste is moderate sweet and heavy to moderate bitter. The flavours are surprisingly hoppy and fruity, with lots of dark berries. The maltiness is quite gentle, although the dark roasted coffee is in place. It feels rather alcoholic, it has a full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice imperial stout that I’m sure some breweries would have labelled Black IPA.
