4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 30, 2007 Bottled at Sicosis, Santiago. Hazy dark amber, creamy head. Delicious aroma of red cherries. Sweet and full bodied. Very malty with dense, solid mouthfeel. Very intense and interesting flavour of red berries and wood. Some higher alcohols sway over a massive biscuity malty body. Itís sweet, but that doesnít get in the way of anything here. A very interesting and unusual beer, fantastic in itís own way.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours copper/gold with a thin ring of bubbles. Smells of sweet fruit, some tarte hints, earthy, tea, some boozy elements, toffee, molasses, peppery. Tastes of tarte fruit, some oaky hints, vanilla, dry, some spicy hints, some hints of sweet citrus, earthy finish. Full bodied. 2007 bottle. One of the best South American beers Iíve had to date.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
iBottle at Sicosis/i A Barley wine / Strong ale sold in a 500ml bottle seemed a bit strange but none the less it was one of the better beers I tried whilst in Chile. Prominent though not overpowering caramel aroma, really smooth taste, hidden alcohol and also a touch of honey on the aroma.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
What an awesome find! Deep amber with a persistent, off-white head. The aroma is sweet with loads of lovely malt and nice, herbal, piney hop bitterness. Caramel, brown sugar, whole grains, light berries, sweet apples, honey, pine resin, light vanilla, mild alcohol and biscuits. The body is thick and full, but with enough carbonation to keep it from coating the tongue. The flavor is definitely slanted toward the sweet end, but there is enough bitterness to keep it in check. The wood aging is a little surprising to me, as I didnít know and didnít detect whilst drinking. However, the mild vanilla and smooth body is very enjoyable. Easily the beer of the trip. Hereís to a properly oak-aged Barley Wine.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500mL Bottle at Bar Irlandťs. Bottle said it was made in Dec06 and bottled in Feb 07. Aroma-right away you can tell itís a been aged a few years-dank, cigary, flat flavored old beerness-I would say itís about 6 months past itís prime, but still drinking very well nonetheless. Hops have all faded from the nose, but they are still very much in the flavor and palate. This beer has an aggressive bitterness in the finish-like a chinook/colombus combo if I had to guess-piny and rough with some earthy herbalness. The finish was definitely the stand out moment in this beer, particularly the hops. Dried out nicely, not much for residual sweetness, but tons of deep caramel flavors. No alcohol heat, smooth as can be. Flavor has quite a bit of cherry that is borderline cough syrupy (a mixed bag), some wood, old ale "flavors", chocolate, caramel (but doesnít come through as much till the finish). Carbonation was right where it should be. A very solid 4.1.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, april 07. Thanks to Lilith, Nigredo and Panzerfaust!. Shinny, clear, deep copper/ burgundy color with light red hues and a creamy, dense, light beige head. Aroma is fruity, some dates, fruit cake and some brandy. Flavor is nutty, sherry brandy rich maltiness, complex, layered with some dried fruits. Excellent. Full MF, packs a flavor punch, deep, complex, satisfying and not heavy. Highly refined, nutty BW, which may be the finest south american brew.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2007 Bottle at Sicosis: Pours a hazy dark amber color with a mysterious luminosity. A big frothy head grows above, crowning a great-looking beer. It stays for a while leaving a good lacing.
Aroma shows great complexity with both, hoppy and malty profiles. The hoppy side shows notes of grass, grapefruit, cannabis and tobacco leaves. The malt gives notes of fruits like ripe cherries, peaches, apricots and wild berries.
Flavor is sweet, inmense and powerful, being as complex as the aroma if not more. There are lots of subtleties, difficult to describe. The most notorius notes show ripe fruits, hazelnuts, almonds, nougat, backed by apricots, plums and peaches. Absolutely fantastic.
Body is big and bold. Carbonation is low but still present. Long, strong finish with nice stickiness. Syroupy texture. Liquor or digestiv qualities. The best beer from Chile by light years. Iím so glad I had the chance to drink this very limited brew with Per. Iím not overrating this at all.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance: dark amber color. Medium head, ivory color, dense and persistent. Good adherence at glass.
Aroma: sweet malty, toffee, candy, butterscotch, vanilla, oak and cream. Evidently complex. Fruitiness of peaches, ripe pears and plums. Floral hoppy, some aniseed. Nutty, cherries and cinnamon touches.
Flavor: syrupy malty, toffee, butterscotch, cream and vanilla notes in start. Sweet-fruity of syrup plums, red raisin, apricot and cherry. Too nutty, almonds, cinnamon and humid wood touches. Persistent hoppy finish, with aniseed and mentholated notes. Hidden liquory, reminiscences of camomile and amaretto liquors. Complex and self-personality.
Palate: medium body, syrup texture. Little and medium carbonation.
A Chilean nicety, complex, power and balanced.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
A truly great beer. Flavourful with the right carbonation and a very íalive!í feeling to it. Alcohol is well integrated to the natural beer flavours. I normally pour the yeast remains in with the beer, but Iím glad I didnít do it with this one, as there was just too much of it! Iím sure it made it great, though!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Color amber, very dark. The cloudy and cremy head. The Aroma is to strawberries and caramel. In paladar is very malty, with toasted seeds and wood. Some alcohol signs appear, in a penetrating sweet flavor. Very good finish, unexpected. A beer to recommend single to that they know to drink, because the alcohol well is camouflaged (Hidden).
